It is much better a player like Harmes who really wants to play for us than a kid who is always looking to swap across to the team that he supported at school.

please provide list of players who swapped to the club they went for as a kid for that apparent reason. Off to the top of my head I can't think of one.

Either way like this pick. Average of 20 touches in Tac tells me he can play and athletically he looks a good mix. Usually in the rookie draft you get only one of those 2 things. Skills is my third recruiting category and you don't see enough of them to judge in his highlights but you can tell he's not horrible.

Probably does!

At last we will have a mole inside the club!

He'd probably be well advised to keep away from supporter forums. Not healthy for the sane to be part of. ;)

Good on him, it's god to see a kid realise his dream. And he's a ginger to boot.

Doesn't look like it,

Note: The following is a cheap shot but sometimes it's best to get it in early. I don't actually believe it.

Not looking at the ball. He's going Melbourne Player written all over him

Excellent pick. Who is going to work harder and he could well have gone in the main draft. Any one who is still a youthful supporter after all the garbage of the last 7 years and is good enough to be a quality performer at TAC level is most welcome.

I find it funny that everyone thinks he is an excellent pick, i didn't hear one person say they wanted us to go for him.

So? I didn't know anything about or want Jesse Hogan or JKH but I think they were excellent picks, what's your point?

Well, here's one. Saw James play a few times this season, and was thoroughly impressed with his hunger, aggression and work ethic. His skills are neat and he is a good size for a mid. I was hoping we'd take him with our third round pick, so to get him in the rookie is a bonus. Would have liked to add Alex Spencer as well, but looks like the club had a clear target in Georgiou as a key defender, so happy that Taylor and Viney got their man there.

I mentioned him in the name your rookie thread. Post 125 I think it was. Was really keen on either Harmes or Ben Sokol as another midfielder.

Pretty poorly presented highlights tape by AFL but he certainly isn't the sort of skinny silky runt we recruited over the last decade and really has a go.

Good luck.

Nice article. Must be a real thrill to not only be drafted, but to be drafted by the Club you love! Doesn't happen to too many kids these days. So, well done to the kid. Really hope he goes well in coming years.

How often does that happen?

When has it ever occurred that a player has left MFC because he wanted to go to a team he supported as a kid?

FMD!

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
