We Should Have Taken Freeman

I do feel like Freeman has alot more upside. If you read Quigleys mock draft and a few others, you will read that the maximum ceiling they have for Salem is to just be a good footballer. A few even said he'll be in the bottom half of a best 22 in his prime. With pick 9 I think you need to reach for higher than that. Yes Freeman, was a bit riskier but there's a reason, the reward would've been much greater.

Dangerfield and Freeman were both taken pick 10 with question marks. I'll be tracking his progress for years to come.

Kicking had nothing to do with it. Freeman kicks well also.

Salem is just the more disciplined and slightly better skilled player who will make the most of his opportunities. He also came across more keen to join the MFC and develop under Roos than Freeman did. Making Salem the better fit for our club. Simple

Freeman has no awareness and no clue

Salem has an incredible footy brain

"I see no difference between the talent available at picks 2 and 9. guys like Lennon and Freeman are every bit as good as Aish and Scharenberg"

You seemed to rate him not that long ago.

Freeman is a good prospect, but we picked another good prospect. Just leave it at that and wait till they play a game.

A minor quibble, but waiting until they've played "a game" is where the Wines v Toumpas angst began. I'd suggest we leave it until they've played at least 50 games each.

Freeman does have no awareness. Did you even watch a game live or just his highlights reel?

Watched him A LOT.

I just find it hilarious that when it comes to draftees people think if a certain player has a weakness in one area it means they're totally hopeless in that area.

There is a middle ground you know, you're not either excellent or terrible at everything.

but those draft gurus are guessing, just like us. a "maximum ceiling"? how the hell did he figure that out? from Salem's form as a beardless boy playing against other beardless boys? a crystal ball i would accept, but not observation, because observation cannot account for the fact that none of these kids have played in the AFL, which is precisely and particularly where they will be tested.

most of those gurus just flick nonsense onto the page in order to put some space between each iteration of "elite".

all that can be said of these two boys is that they have good physical attributes and talent. we can also add that MFCs recruiters saw something which neither the draft gurus nor us are privy to which inclined them to one side of the coin rather than the other.

i am glad we took Salem, because right now as i type Salem is a Demon and that makes him special. he is automatically better than Freeman, who is a filthy Magpie. that it might have been otherwise is irrelevant, because it isn't otherwise.

for my part, i will track Freeman's progress each Queen's Birthday and perhaps one other match per season, otherwise i would have to watch Collingwood matches ... ick.

These horrific weaknesses also seem to come up a lot more after we didn't pick them. 50% of our supporter base was up Freeman and now suddenly his awareness, kicking, and he fact he kicks little kids dogs everyone is super glad we didn't pick him and we made the right choice.

Please.

Exactly. Collingwood didn't seem too put off by this apparently terrible footballer.

Salem over Freeman. Salem's makes quick decisions, changes direction quickly and hits targets under pressure.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
