The captaincy. Who do we want?

Hope Jack and Jack are given the time to concentrate on their own games.

I would vote for Col Garland the quiet performer and achiever.

Who should be considered?

I would have Chris Dawes as Captain and Nathan Jones as Vice Captain or the other way around.

Do we really need another one of these threads....

Captain: Nathan Jones

VC: Clark and Dawes (if they travel well through preseason)

I don't know if I will last the whole off-season - too much theoretical talk for me.

Jones captain Grimes vice captain.

Let trengove get back to enjoying his footy. I have a feeling the leadership comes naturally to Grimes but good if he took a more minor role.

outside chance would be Frawley. hard to leave if you're captain.

Nathan Jones.

Constant effort, training professionalism and most of all ON-FIELD PERFORMANCE must be rewarded.

When someone else wins a Bluey we can start considering other possibilities.

and the above explains all the reasons not to name him captain

Captain: Jones

Vice Captain: Frawley and Grimes

I don't mind having Frawley in the leadership group but is he vice captain quality?

I can't really say I know him very well but he seems a bit laid back for a VC role.

Leadership group: Jones, Frawley, Grimes, Garlo, Dawes, Cross and Clark.

I like it - any room for Trengove though?

Would be a bit harsh.

Cross can keep the spot worm for VIney.

Yeah but give him something so he doesn't leave when he is out of contract.

As long as there is only one captian and he can actual play regular games, let the team decide.

I'd be very cautious in dropping the captaincy on one of our best performers. Some people don't handle it well (me for one), and you could wind up screwing up one of our few top-line players.

Roos is bringing in Leading Teams. I know very little about the mechanics of their process, but presumably the usual suspects will still come out on the top. I would guess our leadership group will feature Jones, Grimes Trengove Dawes and a couple of others. Who will be put in the captains role I have no idea.

I've finally settled on Jones as the next captain. With some midfield support, it'll allow him to carry the captaincy as well. Grimes needs to concentrate on establishing himself as a footballer first. He needs to improve his decision making and hopefully the kicking will following.

I think Col Garland is the strong silent type leader. His football rose to another level this year. Would handle it maturely and with actions speaking loudly and a few level headed words. Would love him in the role for the next 4-5 years.

(VC)

Jones is a champ battler. A great example to those around him, excellent vice captain.

Captain: Grimes

VC: Jones

Why pull Grimesy away from the captaincy. He's been doing a great job. His year was perfectly fine till Brock broke his collar bone.

My thoughts exactly.

Whilst Jones played a great year and is inspirational on the field, I don't believe he has the people skills that Grimes has off the field. I use the article this week as evidence where he stated he was so down for a couple of days that he didn't want to come back out to play. Granted of course that this would be totally understandable, yon can't let that negativity rub off on your teammates if you're captain.

Grimes has a better grip on the emotional aspects of leading a team and deserves a chance under Roos.

Trengove should absolutely just concentrate on his own game this year.

While I prefer a single captain I seem to recall Paul Roos favoured multiple captains when he was at the Swans, so I suspect we should anticipate something similar here.

I don't know who should be captain because it needs more, much more, than the ability to be the team's best player (although being a regular starting 22 player is a necessity). That doesn't mean Nathan Jones shouldn't be captain. It depends on all the other aspects which the club considers important such as media capability, glad-handling sponsors, controlling off-field antics of immature players, training professionalism, on-field behaviour (can't have someone as captain that spits the dummy on field) etc.

From what I've seen it probably means James Frawley shouldn't be captain as he doesn't appear at all comfortable in front of the camera and that's one of the captain's key responsibilities.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
