Brett Anderson confirmed on SEN this afternoon that the Dees are keen on Adelaide's Jarryd Lyons as well. 21 year old inside mid taken at pick 61 in the 2010 national draft.

Adelaide need a pick better than Port's pick 30 to trump Port for Polec. Vince has toured AAMI Park.

I would've thought it's looking like Vince and Jarryd Lyons for Pick 20.

Makes sense, they'll need to throw something in with Vince, that's for sure.

Vince is a good player, but at 28, he is nearly done IMO and doesn't have the best off field record.

Vince would be a better pre-season draft target than someone you'd trade for.

But, I won't jump the gun, I think the draft is fairly even and there isn't a hell of a lot splitting 1 or 20.

They'd be lucky to get our 2nd rounder for a 28 year old injury prone player with attitude issues. I'd do a straight swap for Jamar, fills a need for both clubs.

Stats never tell the whole story but he averaged 20 disposals a game last year. Would love to see what mids, outside of N. Jones, were able to do that for us last season.

Someone mentioned in the other thread that he is injury prone but he has played 58 games over the last 3 seasons. Certainly isn't a star but he would automatically become our second best midfielder.

You forget Vince can actually still play AFL, Jamar can't.

Would definitely do Vince and Lyons for Sylvia compo if it's mid second round or if its after our second round pick. Would consider Vince and Lyons for Pick 20. Wouldn't want just Vince for pick 20 or him mixed up in pick 2 in any way.

Because we are spud collectors.

The names I throw up now in possible trade scenarios have been influenced heavily by the crap that people post on the trade rumours thread... that's the level we (I) stoop to during this troubled time.

Yep. And his role moved around a lot at Adelaide between half back, wing and half forward as they had Scotty Thompson, Dangerfiled, Van Berlo etc.

At Melbourne he'd be the clear number 2 and would surely take pressure from Jones. He's hardly perfect as he's not a gun clearance player or elite runner both ways but considering he'd be replacing Sylvia he would offer similar output at least. As long as we day pay more for the right to get Vince than what we got for Sylvia.

Vince and Lyons for the compo pick we get for Colin Sylvia sounds fair (assuming its a band 3 in the early 20's).

Lyons is the son of a former player Marty who was a real goer in a short career at the club. I liked him.

If we were to add Cross, it gives us some experience in the midfield while we develop what we have now and what we recruit in the short term. I would almost be tempted to announce to the world that we're hanging on to pick 2.

I think my heart stopped for a moment when I read about this Vince thing. Then I remembered we can trade with more than just pick 2 we've been spruiking all week.

Can't name that many midfielders at Melbourne I'd rate more than him. Thats not saying that I think he's incredible.... more a representation of what I think of our midfield.

Tom Gillies.

Don't know how you both can make such fathomable comparisons on such a young, unknown player. Your pessimism stems from past failures by past employees in the past. How's about a bit of optimism for our new club?

Where's the dislike button.

Pick 2 far too much for a 28 year old.

It's BS. GWS are going to trump us. Pick 1 for Vince on 600k for 6 years.

If we got Michie as well and added a certain best 10 player in Vince as well another in that same category as Michie in Lyon (ie. clearly around our best 22 and at an age to be ready to go with a solid preseason) then I'd certainly be happy to keep pick 2. I'd even consider whether Cross is right for us and probably wait until closer to draft time to think about him. Could come on board in a playing and development coach joint role and that playing could be at Casey not at Melbourne.

The feeling I have about this is similar to the one I had last year when se signed up Byrnes; not real flash.

We could spend our money on better things.

I was talking about Vince.

Another aging fringe midfielder. Forgive me for not doing backflips.

You want some optimism? Excuse me while I search for some. I'm not getting any with Vince I give you the mail.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
