Sydney Swans offer Franklin $7 million

Don't understand why there's so much hand wringing going on over this...

Related outcomes from this include:

-Adams will now stay at GWS, so the little chance we had has now completely gone

-GWS still have that money to throw around at other free agents, including some we'd be chasing

-Mummy now on the trade table, even further lessens the value of Jamar and Spencer who we were rumoured to be offering up

-Hawthorn likely to get a very high compo pick for Buddy, pushing our second round pick and any pick we get through trade after about pick 9 back

Buddy going to GWS would have been good for us.

So you don't understand the angst and then list 5 reasons why we should be upset.

Brilliant.

Brilliant.

What's brilliant is you trying to be condescending about understanding when clearly not understanding the actual post.

Just for your clarification, the hand wringing I'm talking about is those we are celebrating that GWS have lost out, when if you look at the whole picture it effects us also.

Maybe take more time to "understand" next time before tripping over yourself in a rush to be "brilliant".

Hand wringing is rarely a sign of celebration. It is more generally used to indicate angst. Hence the entirely understandable interpretation that you were talking about not understanding why people are upset over this.

To be fair, they're just doing what's best for their club as they see it.

It's the AFL who provides the concessional environment that they can then exploit.

The swans have balls. I like balls.

Ok then, I'll cop that. My understanding of that term has always been it's a mischievous anticipation rather than a stress related thing.

Now, that we're done with the literacy maybe we can talk about the footy matters entailed in the post.... Oh wait, it's Demonland...

Anyone can have Balls with a Corporate expense account.

This is totally unacceptable..Fairness lives in the next solar system to this one

The cost of living allowance is meant to be for rent. I'll tell you now Buddy will not be renting.

JB just said on radio how Colless said at a breakfast how sydney were struggling financially and would need help. Don McLardy turned to JB and said your kidding, if he wants to know about a club struggling financially then have a look at us. That year swans won a flag, they recruited Tippett now a year later they have got Buddy.

Why will Adams now stay at the GWS? I read an article yesterday and couldn't figure out how Franklin staying or going makes an ounce of difference for Adams.

I thought it was one of the most ridiculous things I've read, but what are Adams reasons for staying if Franklin isn't there?

Is it money based? If so, does GWS want this type of character at their club, I was sure as hell relieved that Adams didn't want to come to us after reading that article.

it's looking more and more like the English Premier League where realistically only 4 teams can win the competition.

And Dimitriou had the gall to swan around the US pretending that he was looking at "equalization"!!!! What a bloody hypocrite.

You are right - only a handful of teams are serious contenders to win the flag at least in the next decade.

GWS aren't getting screwed. They now have a couple of million dollars to use elsewhere and pick 1 to use on Boyd. I'd say that's a better position than if they had scored Buddy on that money.

Maybe GW$ have dodged a bullet - Buddy could be toxic to the young Giants. At least the $wans have enough mature players to tell him to pull his head in, or at least to ignore his off field antics.

Your last sentence asked for it. Your misinterpretation of the meaning of 'hand wringing' is a result of watching too much of Mr Burns. I'm not sure if there is a word for what he does, but you are misled by his wringing his hands in gleeful anticipation.

Yes, whilst they might have recruited Tippett and now potentially Buddy, it goes against everything that the Sydney Swans built over the past decade.

The Swans created a culture of hard work, collectively working together as a unit to get the most out of themselves and now they bring in big money players like Tippett and Franklin - it all goes to off set the culture that they worked so hard to build... Paul Roos seen the writing on the wall and left at the perfect time.

How quickly can the "Bloods" culture disintegrate now that Roos is gone?

there is a rumour going around that the buddy deal is for 9 years!!! WTF! he'll be 35 by the end of that

yeh and the reason its that long is so that hawks won't be able to financially match it!

I wonder what would happen if just say the COLA is scrapped by the AFL in 2 years whether sydney would have to get rid of players to avoid a breach!?

That's just what I was thinking. Also, if it's 7Mil for 9 years then it's well below what the Hawks are offering.

"But sources at the Hawks and rival clubs suggest the deal may be almost double that at $10 million over nine years"

i think that 7 million would've been for 5 years. if its the same as previously thought (1.4 per year) then he'd be in line for 12.5 over 9 years. he may be a great player, but he is not worth that!

And they have the hide to tell the AFL we do not deserve a PP

Melbourne, St Kilda, Footscray and North have just entered the twilight zone.

We are all destined to stay in the bottom have of the ladder.

Happy to have these sides as long as they remain easy beats!

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
