Dom Barry 2014

Was picked up along with Hogan and wasn't expected to lay many games with Melbourne this year. Though I thought Melbourne did the right thing this year and let him develop at Casey all year to experience the big bodies and tempo of senior footy. And I have to admit Barry didn't disappoint. He showed great skill and pace and link up through the midfield. Has great endurance, quick, skillful, touch of class and could really compliment guys like Viney and Jones on the outside in years to come. Though very outside and skinny he will have to put on some bulk to give him that extra confidence and strength.

If he can play 6-10 games next year it will be a good year for Barry. Can see him becoming a good player for the MFC but im not expecting him to set the world on fire just looking forward to seeing him develop and add some run and carry to our lineup.

Height: 184cm

Weight: 70kg

Games: 0

Goals: 0

Barry also managed to play 14 games with the Casey Scorpions Seniors and also kick 3 goals.

He also managed to play 3 development games as well booting the one goal.

I reakon they really managed this guy well, shame he missed the Casey finals but I think the club would be happy with what he acheived at Casey. Gets more strength over the next 6 months he has the endurance and speed to play on a wing, we shouldn't see him to much next year, it will be another development year for him, if he can manage 5-8 games at AFL level next year that he earns and not given that would be a good result.

Looks bigger than I thought he was in that photo, surely he'd be a few more than 70kg now.

I didn't have a lot of hope for him earlier in the year and I thought he was just 'spare change' in the Hogan deal but if he keeps improving at this rate he should make his senior debut in 2014. I'm looking forward to seeing what he has to offer.

Unfortunately I'm not as optimistic as some here for Dom Barry in 2014. After watching the indigenous game vs Richmond at the start of the year I was wishing we had got Jed Anderson... but not to worry.

In regards to Dom, I think he will need at least another year before he comes on, I find people unfairly overrate him at times - referring to him as a future gun within the same breath as Hogan and Viney.

I really hope under Roos and his assistants that they can first and foremost improve his attack on the ball, particularly within a contested situation, and secondly as others above have eluded to get more mass on the kid.

I would love to see him tearing up the wings and running out of packs in years to come :)

Is he an option to replace Davey in the forward pocket or do we use him for his run and tank?

Bit of both?

could easily seem him playing as a small forward with bursts through the midfield. Most small forwards these days have to be multi-position players

Who's going to make a better wingman? Barry or Watts? Not sure I have a lot of confidence in either but we certainly need some players with some speed and skill on our list. Right now it's Blease and Barry and neither are near good enough to be consistent AFL players but lets hope we can develop them.

Right now it is not a contest tm

Watts is so superior to the B's it is funny.

Barry is the steak knives in the Viney / Hogan deal.

If he turns into a reasonable player then it will have been worth it.

However if by some chance he turns into Good player it will be seen as a master stroke.

I am hopeful more than confident.

Only because we are Melbourne. If he was at Sydney or Hawthorn you wouldn't hear about him for 3 years and then he'd burst on the scene as the next big thing. I like that he's on this trip and I like that he made some ground with his football throughout the year. Positive signs. Again I hope more than expert but that's ok

Great for Dom Barry that he's going to Ireland. But calling the team the Indigenous All-Stars is a bit of a stretch.

Mark Evans is quoted on the AFL's own website as saying, ""The series is a fantastic opportunity for the Indigenous All-Stars to come together as a team and to represent Australia for the first time in the International Rules series against Ireland," Evans said."

So a team which includes a player not yet to have played a game in the second worst team in the competition is an "All-Star" team.

Nope. If I was a Swans supporter I would not be happy a star on a 10 year contract is playing in a waste of time non game like this. There is not International rep footy

Loved what I saw of him in preseason training.

Not so much of what I saw at Casey.

That said, I did witness some fantastic cameos, believe he will make a good player, but am not expecting much next year

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
