It's my (possibly incorrect) opinion that Hawthorn have quite a number of average players who wouldn't do much in a poor team. This bloke is one of them.

I beg to differ. From what I've seen of Savage, he would easily hold down a spot in our best 22. In fact, there's a fair chance he would feature our best 22.

Shane Savage becomes a PRIORITY for MFC now he has called out leaving the Hawks. He is tough, skilled, pacy and loves a goal. Squeezed out at HFC due to weight of small mids and forwards.

EXACTLY WHAT WE NEED ... GO HARD WITH A 3YR DEAL

What do you reckon he will cost trade wise?

Agreed - I think he would be very good for the Dees and would come pretty cheap.

"Savage would be an attractive proposition to clubs looking for young midfielders with around 50 games experience in a good system."

"He was a brilliant performer for the Box Hill Hawks during the finals series, kicking five goals and getting 28 disposals in the preliminary final."

"Hawthorn had a productive meeting with the 22-year-old midfielder on Wednesday where all options were laid on the table and both parties agreed on a way forward.

Although he is contracted for 2014, the Hawks were very supportive of Savage and respectful of his position."

Hawks happy to help Savage search for new club

I think Melbourne would be a attractive place because he would definitely be in the 22 and we could also throw some decent money at him.

If we could make us his preferred club we should be able to force Hawthorns hand and get him cheap.

I think an early 2nd round pick should trump Carlton.

Would love to get away with a 3rd round pick in what is a weak draft.

I'd go hard for him.

C'mon Melbourne, get it done if for no other reason than we could have a forward line boasting both Hogan AND Savage - the MEGA-POWERS REUNITE!!! :)

But seriously this guy actually has pretty good disposal by foot and think he would be a good addition.

If Hawthorn are happy to facilitate a trade for him, the asking price wont be high

Maybe not.

Depends on what Carlton are offering though.

If they offer 1st round and we offer a 3rd round, I can't imagine Hawthorn would care where his preference is.

id have thought a pick in the range high 30's to mid 40's would do it.

Strangely unlike many I think Sylvias pick will be around 34/35/36 depending on others compos so this might suffice

Ist round ? never.. 2nd rounder ..highly doubtful ...they will most likely offer their 3rd ...and we can trump that.. imho :)

And with Brad Miller back we have a "Miss Elizabeth" :)

Assuming we get a 2nd rounder for Col, I would think we could get involved in a 3 way trade with the Hawks and Bris and end up with Savage. This is assuming a number of other factors fall into place. Like Rockliff requesting a trade.

We trade pick 2 and our 2nd round compo (pick 21??)

Bris sends Rockliff and their first round pick 6 to us and Longer to Haw

Hawks send their first round to Bris (19) and Savage to us.

We end up with Rockliff, pick 6 and Savage

Bris get picks 2, 19 and 21

Hawks get Longer

Pretty Win-Win-Win for all??

So we only give up pick 2 and 21 for Rockliff, 6 and savage??? Like it...but no chance in hell

Might sound a bit far fetched but would pick 2 for hawthorns pick 17, 18 (buddy compo) and savage be fair?

Turning pick #2 into 3 solid players would be a real win for us. 17 could land the best hard bodied mid who slides (as im starting to think our second rounder may be too late with all the compo picks), pick 18 could be used on Zack Jones + Savage should be a solid contributor. Although I'd hate for a premiership side in hawthorn to receive the best midfielder in he draft

Mate, nice try, but seriously, you've got Brisbane giving up Rockliff for 2, Longer for 19, and then downgrading pick 6 for pick 21.

Doesn't get close to adding up.

You're Dreamin.

Forget them giving us pick 6.

That 3way deal is a NO DEAL

Anyone else think this guys a bit of a spud. Just not a very smart footballer. Can kick but doesn't use the ball well. Doesn't win a heap of the ball. Isn't really a forward, inside mid or outside mid.

I'd take him for a third round pick because he's ready to go and would add something but I would kind of be hoping he gives us 50 decent games over the next few years but then gets pushed out by more talented players.

My first assumption was that Rockliff requests a trade, therefore his value significantly decreases. Plus Longer has told them he's gone (or as good as), so this deal although not ideal for Brisbane, is something they might consider rather than just losing Longer for 19 and that's it.

I'd only want Savage if he's the steak knives because I don't think he's worth a second rounder.

If we make players want to come for us, and this will take cash, then it strengthens our ability to be involved in trading.

Yer - A fringe player at Hawthorn asking to leave isn't going to cost a 1st round pick (possibly 2nd round if there are multiple interested teams)

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
