Maybe this is a blessing in disguise.

The longer it takes to find a successor the longer Roos stays as head coach. Which is what we all really want.

Who knows, maybe this coming year will change his mind and he will want to coach on beyond the next 3 years.

Absolutely, given it was the club's preference to get him for 5 years. Maybe the club isn't so disappointed with Dew's decision in the scheme of things. Would be interesting to know whether Roosy was insisting on a Succession plan as part of his conditions to signing on when the club may not have been so keen. I wouldn't want to pressure him though...he seemed pretty certain that it was no more than 3 years, and that's surely better than none

There goes Dew. Re-signed for 3 years with the swans..

Roos doesn't seem to all that popular. Candidates aren't rushing the doors for a spot under the master. Nathan Bassett anyone?

At least we won't blow out our pie budget now.

We should be requesting living allowances with Viney and Hogan on our list - those two alone would eat through our salary cap.

Again what the hell would any of us know. It is what it is and will be what it will be. It will be this year..it will be next year. I don't really care. It is an asst coach being training to be a head coach. Roos will pick who he thinks is right when the person and the time is right. I will lose no sleep over this.

VOSS or SUMICH would be good, tudor, buns, ling, simpson and now DEW are all tired up at other club.

For once i agree with you Wayne. Voss would be my #1 target.

And your lucky it's the weekend so the teacher in me doesn't have the "duty of care" responsibility of fixing your grammar, spelling and sentence structure.

It's not a matter of Roo's popularity - its our popularity as a club that is weighing us down.

It seems that all are assuming here that Dew was the "heir apparent!" It may not be so. Just because the media puts stuff out there doesn't mean it is true. They get it wrong just like a lot of the rumours on this site! As someone here has said, maybe Dew was told he is not the annointed one? The club at the moment is a closed shop in regards to info getting out, that is a good thing! All the successful clubs let no-one know of their plans until the plan is unveiled! Don't panic, I still believe the decision has been made and..... A. Richardson or B. Kirk

Leave EYNAW alone! He's dyslexic.

I hope your right because it is looking rather dim apart from the Roos appointment. All the good air is being sucked out again and perceptions are not looking good. Players and coaches appear to be avoiding this club like the avian flu.

Holger Osieck might not understand anything about the game but he is available.

I feel a bit sorry for 'Holger from the Mulga'but that's not for this thread.

I've got a good feeling about the Dees going forward. I do believe the planets are starting to align. Whatever that means.

A Demons flag in the near future. The first sign of the Armageddon/

Either way I'd be happy.

wait up a sec, we did already manage to upgrade our assistants with Stone, Allison and Matthews. Not quite the end of the world.

To be honest, I believe coaching is one of the things that the supporters can't make a really good judgement on, especially assistant coaches. Who knows what input Dew, Sumich, Richardson etc have on their team. It could be massive, or they could have their butts covered by the head coach. Who knows. all we can base it off is public hearsay. I'd say, take some deep breathes and trust the most sought-after coach in the league to pick a man he thinks has the right character and skill set for the job all when he's good and ready. He knows what he's doing.

By doom and gloom merchants like you. We've already signed 3 new coaches, Mahoney said they interviewed 5 for senior assistant. Which coaches we've approached have turned us down? Names?

I agree with you Song. Voss has the right credentials - I cannot believe the way Brisbane gave him the big A just when he was starting to come good. In any event I'd like him around the place to assist in the development of Viney and Toumpas.

Doom and gloom actually comes from being a MFC supporter over the past 50 years, it is not an inherent trait outside of the MFC.

And by the way we are led to believe Dew was approached twice recently as the clubs preferred choice or is that just media BS?

The 5 we supposedly interviewed include who?

Who knows, and that might be a good thing for a change.

No one saw Buddy going to Sydney, Tippet was also unexpected. The culture Roos helped instil at Sydney with the sealed lips of Jackson and Mahoney might be taking effect at Melbourne. We might get a pleasant surprise.

The expectation that with Roos on board, all is well, and people will be happy to come to the club is probably a bit unrealistic.

Getting a few runs on the board in 2014 will make the club a lot more attractive (hence the 3rd year option in Roos contract?).

And Dew is not out of reach with new contract (still assistant coach); being appointed Senior Assistant to MFC with guaranteed Senior Appointment in 2 years would still see a release.

Posted

Heard from influential coterie member that we may sit out an appointed successor in 2014 and continue talks with Jonothan Brown coming on board as senior assistant for a 2 year apprenticeship with Roos. Brown considered this year before playing on one more year.

However we are seeing a lot of young players wanting out and rumour of Voss, Brown and Black being very insular and blokey. Who knows but something wasn't right up there however they did win a lot games late in the season. But why do these kids want out?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
