EATING CROW by George on the Outer

They say that eating crow is the same as eating your own word ... well the Demon supporters did nothing of the sort, because the team delivered exactly what the supporters predicted against Adelaide ... another 10+ loss!

The advertisement on Fox for mantherapy to cure depression, during the game will probably result in half our membership ( the blokes at least) signing up and ensuring Dr Brian Ironwoods kids are kept in good private schools if you missed it, here it is:

http://www.mantherapy.org.au/

The small glimmer of hope, being a seven point lead, at the end of the first quarter was snuffed out all in a 4 minute stretch in the second. Adelaide piled on 4 goals in that period, then backed it up with a couple of others to kick 6 straight for the quarter. Game over, even though Melbourne pulled two back before the half-time siren.

Speaking of sirens, the last game at AAMI park or Football Park or Westlakes or whatever they choose to call the place, has finally seen the last of that appalling siren. Surely it was dug out of a train wreck of some 1950s locomotive, which really when you think about it just about sums up the city of Adelaide ...

Enough, the rubbish continued for Melbourne in the second half. The half- hearted efforts displayed by multiple Melbourne players was finally exploited by the Crows and an 11 goal break was opened up, which lasted until the end of the game.

There is little hope for the supporters to hang their hats on for 2014 if we have to watch Jack Watts spectating on the game around himself again. If he goes elsewhere next year it wont be any loss as he simply refuses to go and get his own ball. His two goals (that some will trumpet today) were the result of others' hard work, while his high fiving simply makes the supporters guts churn. Do something seriously good before you chase accolades!!!

Jimmy Toumpas returned to the seniors and showed plenty of promise. His skills with the boot are something to look forward to, but too often he had no-one upfield willing to do the hard running to provide a target.

Jake Spencer rucked strongly and played well around the ground, with excellent second efforts. Pity he reverted to the Jamar ruck style this game and kept on trying to jump into Jacobs. When you are 204 cm, just go for the ball please.

The early loss of David Rodan curtailed a good portion of our run, and even though he was replaced by Aaron Davey, we actually needed both of them out there.

Why James Magner cannot get a run after being elevated to the senior list, when we are crying out for mids who can get the ball is beyond me. Dont care if he cant kick, we have plenty of players who can, but cant get the ball. Or dont want to get the ball in some cases.

We all cant wait for the season to end. The AFL have done us another huge favour by scheduling our last game at Etihad at 4.40pm on a Sunday. This could set a new record for low attendances, and they really only have themselves to blame.

Still the Suns v GWS game on the same day could just pip us and the Dogs for the all time low ... and we still wont be eating crow!

1 more game til season over.

Can we just forfeit and get the home and away season over with? In the past few years, pre-season has become the only season that I enjoy.

One game to go then a few weeks off, then we finally start the ever successful pre-season. Full marks to everyone still watching us; I know full well how hard it is. I'm just about out of steam.

One or two minor positives like Toumpas and.....ummmmm........ummmmm?

I really cant think of any.

Adelaide scored a lot of goals in junk time. There were positives today. Obviously, Toumpas is starting to show class.

Couldn't get a clearance. Couldn't dispose the ball out of the back 50 or into the forward 50. Too many believe that 100% effort is optional particularly our half forwards who don't work hard enough.

Backs and forwards will look like gold once that middle bit is fixed but its barely under construction.

We will beat Footscray next week.

Ok maybe we won't. It's fine to delude myself so I can bring myself to watch though, right?

First quater was magnificent.. then we did the demon suffle.

A small rhyme to make us all smile :)

4 goals in 4 minutes told the true story of the game.

and the dees fell back into that deep dark hole from whence they came.

The crows took flight and shocked our boys with terrifying fright.

the crowd cheered with a mighty roar, the dees walked off feeling hardly sore.

for one to feel sore, one must win the ball and chase it true.

a thing done with little heart for the boys who claim their heart beats true.

How long do we have to burn in hell like this for?

Was a 23 point game in that last quarter. Ended up being 68. Typical Melbourne dropping the bundle. Doesn't help with umpiring of that..persuasion. Plus far too many bullet wounds in the foot.

Tapscott needs to go at season's end. Pedersen is useless. Matt Jones tries but his skills just aren't good enough for this level.

Best thing to come out of today was Toumpas. Other than his deer in the headlights moment off half back, he is looking good. Just need to concentrate on the next generation and with a bit of luck, throw some some money at quality seniors to get on board and guide them through.

Had the game on the radio, lots of talk about lack of intensity. We got touched up yet only laid six more tackles. Looking forward to seeing our forward line up and running next year.

Posted

Did not see the game but the free kicks 25 to 11 looks seriously suspect.

How come they never run that way when we host a non-Victorian club?

So tell me before I watch the replay...how many goals were those frees worth to the margin?

Posted

I didn't see any of the game today but we always seem to give the backline a pass because our midfield is crap, but once again we see the opposition score 18 goals against us with one player kicking 5 in the last quarter.

If or back line is that good how come they can't stem the flow of goals; were they disinterested in the last quarter, did they think they'd done enough for the day?

Posted

What is clear is that, with a better midfield, this side would improve significantly and quickly. I know that's a bit of Captain Obvious but I don't think we are that far off the mark.

Posted

Our ability to grab the ball in traffic or use the ball in traffic is astonishingly bad. Our blokes have no idea whatsoever about how to drive their bodies through the line of the ball.

There was basically no pressure coming through the middle of the ground. Frawley and T-Mac did not have great games today though and were both well beaten.

we got at least 5 goals agaisnt us for soft pathetic decisons IMO. The boys seemed tried hard today. But its hard to beat Umpirng that is biased towards adelaide

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
