Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>

I find it quite ironic that the mods on this site find it necessary (and quite rightly so) to suppress posts about rumours of the alleged activities of a certain (opposition) player and his future at his own club while a so called "leading newspaper" in this town allows its own journalists to routinely publish rumour and innuendo about other clubs.

Why do they allow Wilson for instance to write that "Melbourne will be harshly punished. Cameron Schwab and Chris Connolly will be finished at the club" (back in November) well before the outcome of the tanking investigation is known, indeed before charges are laid and those in question are allowed to defend themselves. Similar attacks have been mounted on Essendon and its officials and coaches on the drug allegations before the facts have come out and an investigation taken place.

Why does an alleged drug cheat with an already chequered history and his club get more protection than respected figures in the game?

Because there is no confirmed investigation or charge against this rumoured player . It's all social media stories with at this stage no foundation, unfortunately our club is under investigation and it opens us up to these stories. The investigation is not a rumour it is happening even though we think it shouldn't.

I understand that but don't accept that people have licence to condemn others over what is as yet unsubstantiated information.

I was commenting on the irony of the situation.

Dank admitting that coaches used supplements that were "a little bit" outside WADA'S code and not the players is bewildering if anything. Is it a red flag? And what is a little bit? It's either inside or outside.

It tells us nothing except the coaches of all things are experimenting or using peptides. Weird. And a little puzzling.

Of course, it's possible that testing which might prove that banned substances were taken by any of the players can't be carried out but there may be evidence that they were present at the EFC (evidence of delivery or information through wire taps or other technology).

It would then be a convenient response to say that these substances were never given to players, only coaches and therefore no players get suspended (if the response is believed).

Just a theory.

From what I've read peptides are currently undetectable through any current testing. Your theory regarding coaches using instead of players as a cover up makes sense.

Leaving Essendon out of the discussion I get the feeling that a week down the track

That there is some political kite flying going on here.

Now it seems that 16 clubs have nothing to worry about, 3 NRL clubs mentioned have now been cleared.

I smell a federal govenment keen to appear on top of something / anything with an election around the corner.

Does anyone else feel this is a witch hunt with very little to back it up.

We are supposed to believe that there is a great big problem out there when my gut feel now suggest there is a problem

But it did not need this level of activity.

Reputations are going to be trashed and for those individuals there will be no way back.

But perhaps I am just a cynic

After their briefing yesterday I see that the State Premiers are saying that the problem is worse than they imagined. Since most of them are Liberals, I think that blows a hole in the theory that this is a Federal govt stunt.

I will believe it when I see charges until then it is 50% grandstanding in my view

No doubt, OD.

But whenever something like this was to come out - an entire club possible use of peptides, another player known to be in trouble, 3 to 6 NRL clubs with clouds over them, and with the links to criminals, bikie gangs, and a possible 9 AFL clubs with illicit drug use - the [censored] was going to hit the fan and the community at large was always going to overreact...

(I mean this was the worst week in Australian sport since...jeez, I really can't tell you...)

The government overreacted first. It takes away criticism about not taking it seriously enough.

And it takes newspaper space for a short while...

Being the natural cynic I am I wouldn't put it past any Government to manipulate a released report to suit their own agenda. Having said that if anybody thinks we don't have a problem in this country and sporting bodies in inparticular with PIED's and recreational drugs, then they are blowing smoke up their own clacker. It's a genuine issue that is escalating at an alarming rate.

Can't have this thread fall off the front page. It has given me so much pleasure over the past two weeks.

This started to p--- me of a week ago dc.

Now it seems AFL teams will be up for every bit of slander and mischievous piece from anyone seeking fame or revenge from any slight real or imagined.

And still there are no charges or any hard evidence.

This may go down as the biggest political witch hunt we have seen so far this century.

We should all read Andrew Bolt's peice in todays HUN.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
