There must be something more going on under the surface at Essendon than what we already know. Evans said on Thursday night after leaving the Essendon board meeting that he was off to dinner and that it definitely wasn't a "farewell dinner". Forty-eight hours later, he bids the Bombers farewell.

Now, he doesn't strike me as the type who would desert a sinking ship but that sort of behaviour suggests that he's taken the first or second lifeboat off the Titanic (and never mind the women and the children). What happened in those 48 hours to make him change his mind, especially given that we are two weeks away from the announcement of the results of the ASADA investigation?

I can't help but think this has something to do with the evidence ASADA has in its hands which some people felt might be instrumental in getting Essendon and its players off the hook.

Evans is being made out to be another victim in this saga. The rubbish statement made by Hamish Mclachlan on game day makes Evans out to be Jesus. Ummm Evans is/was the bloke in charge of a club who is up poo creek in a drugs scandal. Is anyone going to actually be found to be guilty or put their hand up that they were at fault? Or did the bombers players allegedly just trip over onto a pile of PED's?

I hate Essendon nearly as much as Carlton, but I don't get pleasure out of a 45 year old mans health suffering so much he needs to stand down from the presidency of a club he loves.

There have been terrible mistakes made at Essendon, but I feel for someone such as Evans, who in a voluntary capacity merely tried to serve his club.

If you mean MFC as a crap club well its my understand it is now undergoing a major rebuild/restructure.

Sure this years a write off but with the right people in the right jobs the on field results will improve greatly.

So all I ask is please don't insult the Club I support and am a member of, as I always give back much more to those who try and I would rather do that to supporters of other Clubs.

'Ben', I don't like what's happening to the game at the moment and I don't get any pleasure from the Essendon situation. However I'm not sure I can be so understanding of Evans position, I think he has had a blind faith in the coach who has let him down badly and that's the best I can say for him.

I feel angry about the lies that have been told throughout this whole saga starting from the sham of a press conference back in February and I think a lot of damage has been done to the game as a whole. Evans played his part in this and had to step down, Hird has to go next and should have been the first out the door.

Agree Ben, there is no pleasure in seeing someone get so stressed that their health suffers from a voluntary office. None of us know what Evans knew and to see him getting sick from trying to save his club is sad.

BTW I could never hate any other club as much as I hate Carlton.

My view has been all along that the Bomber will get punished big time for this from the AFL.

I am unsure whether they have been proved to have breached the drug codes, that will come out soon.

What I find despicable is that they have made players have injections, that may have long term side effects and that even today they are unable to definitively tell their players what they took and the possible side effects attached. That deserves everything that the AFL can throw at them, which IMO has to include multiple years of lost draft picks and the heaviest fine possible, together with other sanctions.

No supporter on this forum can say without doubt that Hird has done the wrong thing. However, events such as the catch up with Charters at Jupiters Casino and the other choices made regarding associations ie dodgy South Yarra doctor, surely make his position ultimately untenable. I do feel for David Evans but I certainly don't feel for a coach whom I suspect believes in his own invincibility rather than the reality around him.

is it sort of funny in a bizarre twisted way that Hird the golden boy is twisted up in a drugs saga. I guess we just saw him as a perfect footballer and an all round nice guy who could never do anything wrong.

In an ideal world:

- golden boy banned from football

- board sacked en masse

- bombers stripped of all premiership points in 2013

- banned from finals footy this year

- Jobe stripped of 2012 Brownlow

- withheld from first two rounds of 2013 draft

- fined in the region of $1-2m

Further measures could see them banned from 2014 draft, stripped of any points in 2014.

If the players are banned from the competition for 6-24 months, the bombers may be withheld from the competition for 2014/15 and weekly byes re instituted, but that would be extreme to say the least.
