My changes for this week...

IN: Tapscott, Davis

OUT: Kent, Garland (inj)

Casey had a bit of a shocker, but those 2 guys have had consistent form over the last month and deserve to show if they're up to it at AFL level or not.

A fair few young guys look like they need a spell a VFL level (Kent, Toumpas, Clisby, M.Jones) but it's important we don't make too many changes.

I think Toumpas needs a rest. 2 possessions, not a great defensive job and emotionally spent. Coming off the back of a trip to Darwin it makes sense to rest him. Nicholson is the best available replacement in terms of midfielders - the cupboard is simply bare.

As far as replacing Garland in defense I think it's at the point in the season where we start to look to a teaching role to a degree so I think it's time for Howe to learn how to use his body in a contest and mark the ball on a lead without taking a hanger every time. He's also a nice match in terms of his ability to play tall or small. Therefore I'd move him to the backline and include Tapscott in up forward.

would tapscott potentiall play the medium defender role for garland?

If Garland isn't going to get up then it's Davis to get his chance. We already know what Pedo can do and it's not that much.

Toumpas looked sick last week. If he was then we can shrug and accept that he probably shouldn't have played. If he wasn't then it's probably time for him to have a break and give Strauss a shot.

Gawn managed ok in the hitouts but wasn't great around the ground, so maybe swap him for Spencer. If Fitz doesn't get up then we can have them both but that is less than ideal.

North are very hard at the ball. We might need Spencer to replace Gawn to counter Goldstein's dominance.

Is Spencer better than Gawn? And was Gawn really defeated by Mumford/Pyke and Leuenberger? I don't think he was. And I also think so far Spencer's record was a defeat by Warnock against the blues and a victory over McEvoy against the saints. Hardly dominant form when he has been in. Let's hope Fitzy is ok though.

Well at 180 cm he may.

Really? i thought he was taller than that :/ okay ignore that idea.

Surprises me that some want to drop the sub rather than the subee. Kent added energy and Toumpas had a disaster.

Out: Fitzy(knee), Garland (ankle), M Jones, Kent

In: Pedersen, Davis, Magner, Tappscott

FF: Blease Pedo Watts

HF: Byrnes Dawes Howe

C: M. Jones Jones Trengove

HB: Terlich McDonlad Grimes
FB: Clisby Frawley Dunn

Foll: Gawn Sylvia Viney

Pederson replaces Fitz and chips in the ruck to assist Gawn.

I would like fitz to play, but lets be honest, his impact stopped as soon as he suffered what appeared to be a jarred knee or hyper extension.

I imagine he pulled up sore.

Davis replaces garland, clearly not an ideal replacement given garlands season but Davis needs another crack and has good potential.

Matt jones has not had the impact he demonstrated a few weeks ago, perhaps he could do with a rest. Although jimmy had a quieter game in the VFL against essendon this week, he and couch have been machines in the vfl for the last two months. With jimmy doing the bullocking in and under work, guys like toumpas, jones, grimes, trengove, viney and clisby can do a little less hard ball getting in congestion and work on their delivery to the forwards.

Also, Howe is a forward, he can take marks on the lead and is very good at it as well as being the best specky taker in the league, he is not a half backer, hence listed in the forward line.

Nicholson in the midfield as a tagger, perhaps on boomer, swallow or zeibal, or whoever is their current most effective mid.

Nichos effort cannot be denied, but often his disposal is not great. However he has a massive engine and can be quite aggressive, i reckon he could be a very good tagger.

How's Joel MacD been travelling?, reckon he's got a bit more going as a replacement for Garland than Sellar, Gillies, Pedo etc. Yes he isn't the future but a battle hardened body to come in against the Kangas who have a habit of rag dolling us

What's with all the Tapscott love?

The guys had numerous games this year and struggles to get a kick.

Leave him at Casey he is reasonably effective there.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
