Does the MFC deserve draft assistance?

So... Based on past precedent, do we deserve draft assistance?

YES.

'Deserving' something has nothing to do with precedent... would you argue that thieves should have their hands cut off, just because the precedent is there from medieval times?

If we were still in the old system, we would have earned draft assistance... but we're in a new system, so we haven't. It's up to the AFL.

I don't agree with the term "deserving", but it's what the OP asks.

But we deserve a priority pick.

That's not indisputable fact, it's my opinion.

If you don't like it, you can jump in the lake.

The club that beat us today had the first five picks in the 2011 National Draft and 9 of the first 14 and yet today was its first win of its second season.

I think it's time for the AFL to get serious with the sort of draft assistance it's prepared to hand out to this club to help get it back on its feet.

Draft assistance alone isn't going to do the trick but without 2 to 4 mini draft or priority picks I can't see us breaking through for a long time.

Totally agree mate, if we weren't going to get a PP i think we will now.

This is very true. But we need a or two PP before pick one, so we can trade them for a couple of Mid's with class. Not to use int he draft.

Yes. But if the AFL do not headhunt the right people to run this club we will not get a PP.

We need the right people running the club. Without them the draft means stuff all.

We need some footballers with some grunt as well!!!

There is talk of AFL support for someone like Buddy Franklin going to GWS, I wonder if there could be similar support to get players to Melbourne?

It is quite obvious we need 2 or 3 mids to support Jones and the young mids coming through. This is the only thing that will make us competitive next year.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
