Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

While I was initially very anti-Cross because we are in a development stage and he will be 31 next season, I talked to my man at Doggies and he reckons Cross is still among the fittest three blokes at Whitten Oval and would not be delisted except that they have an abundance of young mids and still have to fit Coons, Murphy and Gia into side.

His form over final six weeks after recall from VFL was exceptional and he towelled up Jimmy T in final game.

He has been playing as an outside mid for them during that time though and despite being renowned for being a handball merchant, he did provide good link-up.

Basically I think he will more than likely replace Matt Jones from our mids rotation, although given a few injuries, they could both get a game.

His selection will most likely be as a delisted free agent - so there's no trade or draft pick involved, but it does take away a pick at draft and leaves us with just five live picks (Hogan and Magner take up two spots) assuming Clisby is not upgraded until after next season.

While the experts are saying this year's draft pool is exceptionally thin, I still think we will have to delist two more players yet.

I would be staggered if they promoted Magner into the Senior list ahead of Clisby.

We have been in a development stage for the last 7 years...we are now in a 'need results now stage'.

Cross will improve our team...he's in.

Forget his age, more important questions

1. is his body capable of holding up to AFL level?

2. will he offer leadership on and off the field?

3. will he play in and improve our best 22 consistantly

4. is he the right sort of personality to guide our young talent?

in my opinion all of these are obviously yes so the two year deal people are saying he signed with us would be an awesome result for the club.

Why would you uprgrade a rookie when you don't need to? Clisby doesn't need to be upgraded until the end of 2014.

In regards to Magner, I wouldn't mind betting they will ask him to extend his rookie contract by 12 months, similar to what Jordie McKenzie did a few years back (presuming this is still within the rules).

Because, if we don't have any LTIs, we can't play Clisby until Round 12 (when all clubs are allowed to promote one rookie regardless of LTIs).

Clisby is borderline best 22 right now. He earned his spot on the senior list, and deserves to be in the running to play AFL football from Round 1.

Interesting indeed consider there were reports he met with the Blues yesterday and was set to meet with the Dees today?

He may prefer Carlton because of finals chances, but he doesn't fit what they are now trying to achieve, a rejuvenated list. MM has said they are not a real finals team and need to fix up certain areas, like speed in the midfield and a key forward. He is neither of those.

It would be good to pick Cross up but it's certainly not the end of the World if we don't, there are probably a couple of ex Geelong footballers that are as good or better.

Getting Rodan was all about a role model at training and I think we've gone past that by now.

With Cross, if we were to sign him now as a FA, would it count against any compo if Sylvia bolts?

Or does it have no effect because he is a delisted FA?

I know Byrnes affected our compo last year, but I think we signed him before he was officially delisted, even though he wasn't going to get another contract offer.

So why the hell put DRod on the senior list if he was there for training? Maybe one of those pathetic line assistants would have been a better role for him.

Delisted free agents don't count against compo. I think rpfc outlined the rules earlier in this thread.

I don't know whether he has been delisted though. If he has, sign him up in the designated DFA window and it won't count against any Sylvia comp.

I did consider adding that in my post too, but given that he's been told he's not required, what reason would they have not to delist him other than to be pricks? He must have been delisted, surely. Not that I think it'll have any effect on the decision to take him or not anyway.

I guess what I was poorly asking is, should we sign him now?

Or should we agree terms then wait and sign him later?

i.e. will it affect potential FA compo.

Like rpfc, I'm unsure whether Cross has been technically delisted at this stage.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
