The Trade/Draft Rumour Mill

Actually if you have a closer look at Fyfe he has bulked up quite a bit; I was surprised over the final series to see how big his legs are, compared to lazy year. I was always under the impression that he was a bit skinny.

An absolute gun if he can sort out his GF kicking! Really cost Freo

Don't know if there is another post on it but we have interest in Matt White (UFA) from Richmond

I hope so. I like his run & pace. & honest work.

Blease hasn't come on, & runs without footy IQ. runs into trouble all the time. I don't know if Roos & his team can fix him.

Bail hasn't done the job, & I reckon needs a fresh start.

A fresh start, right out of footy.

His attack on the ball is fantastic, but those concussions he sustained would be playing on his mind.

Think about your health, Rohan.

No thanks.

Turn over merchant.

An improvement on what we have though and has pace, which we are in desperate need of. If he doesn't cost much I'm for it.

hmmn, it never reigns, but it paws?

Is this a very oblique reference to us targeting players from Cats, Lions, Tigers or Dogs?

It would be folly to do anything at all with Messendon. No telling what little extras might come along with those deals

One would want to have a cast iron assurance from ASADA that the individual was NOT on their "list".

Mahoney's reconfirmation that pick 2 is on the table tells me that our efforts of attracting any decent FA's is SFA. Furthermore, our abilty to trade with other clubs on a 'needs basis' is limited due to our ordinary list.

As much as it pains me to say it, Sylvia is a must keep if we're at this point already. Chapman will add something if he comes across but he's into his 30's now and struggled with injury this year. Other FA's that have not had the success like Chapman will be looking for a club challenging for a top 4 spot, not a cellar dwellar.

We' are ugly and nobody wants to dance with us.

Ed: Daniel Cross will be a great inclusion and I hope we have him convinced.

I think you have summed up our situation perfectly McQueen.

IMO Think 2015 or perhaps 2016 before we will be in a position to attract a good FA.

If pick 2 remains on the table from the Dees, at some time during the trade period various clubs will bite, they have to. It is too good an option to dismiss because "no-one wants to go the Melbourne". With Mahoney stating that pick 2 remains an option but only in exchange for a select group of players, a club with some young gun midfielder who wants to leave will take a very big bite at this carrot on a stick. The "not wanting to come to Melbourne" factor is being fully negated by the "I want to be coached by Paul Roos" factor.

Based on the reliable foundations of rumour and innuendo, I see the following:

Pick 2 getting us a young gun midfielder like Swallow, Sloane or the like.

Pick 20 a talented draftee.

Picks 36 and 54 being attached to players like Tapscott, Blease, or Strauss to target players like Greenwood from NM, Myers from Essendon,

Later draft picks being used to gain Jolly and/or Cross.

Mark Stevens @Stevo7AFL 18m

Extremely popular Tiger Matty White. Saw him casually walking into Demons' office last week. Would be a loss ... as a free agent has options..

Just wondering there are rumours swirling around that we made contact with Rockliff last week or this week sometime. There was reports Jade Rawlings boarded a Brisbane plane today I think with a Melbourne folder?

Mark Stevens (yes I know) tweeted saying that Matt White was seen entering the Melbourne office.

He would be derelict in not talking to us.

We will be aiming for a few fringe players Roos thinks he can mould and one good midfielder for pick 2 if it doesn't happen then we will go to the draft and bring in a couple of "old stagers" (chapman etc) for a year or so to help out.

I dont expect a lot of movement beyond that.

The most interesting rumour was Roos met with Silvagni, what does GWS have that we want and vice versa even if indirectly?

I am not taking that line seriously Maldonboy.

There are a number of coaches as good as Roos around at present.

I have yet to see any miracles from PR.

I hope we offer Colin Sylvia a healthy 2Yr contract, Heavily front ended...

If we can get things going right he can extend & be a one club player.

Otherwise if it doesn't work, Roos next year can work with Col to workout a trade deal to a club that Col thinks can be a good fit for him.

this way IMO has all the attributes of a Win-Win.. Col gets to play under Roosy, gets a nice front-ended contract, & could be a one club player with club on the way up. We get back something for all the years of injuries etc in Cols early days, & if it doesn't workout, we can both workout a trade @ the end of 2014, & get a return.

My mate just came back from up there this morning and says he saw Rawlings at the airport. Didn't know where he was headed though!

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
