He was having some nasty problems with his hamstrings that year. I know I'm not the only one who thought he was on his last legs and should make the call himself. If he had done that, or the club had handled things better with pushing him we might have kept him on as a development coach/mentor for the young group Bailey was bringing in, which would have been a huge advantage.

I don't believe it.

He thought he was 'good to go' on, & the club at that stage wanted to push on with the youth build. It was IMO this that the club was using to push him out.

I was of the suspicion back then, that they kept him out, way longer than he needed, trying to convince him to retire. & trying to paint him to Us, as finished.

I didn't believe the length of his layoff then, was all due to the recovery from the hammy injury, & I still don't.

after 12 months out, he was able to play under Sheeds @ GWS, helping them out. He could have easily done that with us & been captain for another 12 months thru 2011.

he was our best captaincy option by the length of the Flemington straight.

Jeepers just about had a heart attack and thought Roos had lost his marbles when you said Clisby delisted.

He must be close to starting 22.

Disappointing for Magner who seemed to give it his all but just didn't have the extra to make the grade.

The PSD is over-rated these days with delisted FA and the ability to nominate a contract price in the ND. Unless we can convince an uncontracted listed required player that he wants to come to MFC that pick is useless - pick 57 way more useful. There's very few players with that status now - look at our candidates for example - Jetta and Nicholson.

That said, I would've liked to have retained Sylvia and got Vince, Cross, Tyson, pick 9 and Michie

Not possible Ron. Without losing Sylvia we wouldn't have had the picks to land Vince. Or alternatively we'd have used 20 for Vince and missed out on Tyson. In this game of "choose your own reality", you can choose between any two of Sylvia, Vince and Tyson.

Just out.

The more i look into it the more i am falling for Freeman.

Quick, can use the footy well, find the goals, break lines and is already 85kgs!

I'm not as convinced but will trust Roos and the boys to make the right pick. I wouldn't be swayed by the combine results, you can really come unstuck here.

Disappointed to see Taggert delisted. Thought the kid had some potential, still i've always been a crap judge of talent.

Is there a possibility that Taggert might be rookied? As in 1-yr-only last-chance contract?

And you'd expect that to leave 4 rookie spots clear would imply that we've got a pretty good idea of what rookies we're after?

I'm a bit suspicious about Collingwood's intent with pick 6. Logic would dictate that they want someone at 6 who they didn't think would make it to pick 10. This leaves only us and the Lions with picks in between. Bontempelli has been talked up as a top 6 selection recently but I think that is only due to Collingwood's "reported interest" and personally I think he will still be there at 10. Therefore, through nothing but gut feel, I think they would be targeting either Scharenberg or Freeman with pick 6.

I don't think they will take him at 6 either.

I got in a random conversation on the train tonight with a guy who reckons he keeps an eye out for players for a side in one of the yarra ranges league. He claims that Dom Tyson is an utter gun and GWS will regret letting him go for a pick on a young kid.

Pies believe that Bontempelli won't be available at pick 10. That from an idiot mate who is Pie through and through and part of cheer squad!

I wouldn't be opposed to looking at delzeil delisted eagle. Played 17 games, averaged 16 disposals and kicked 15 goals. Kinda surprised he got delisted.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
