The Trade/Draft Rumour Mill

I am hopeful Roos can make Blease.

It's annoying that we have to rely on a coach to 'make' a player because they aren't intrinsically driven or motivated enough.

Personally I just don't think Blease has the drive or determination and is a bit of a front runner.

He clearly doesn't have the engine at the moment. Hopefully he can develop one.

Why not though? I know he had a serious injury in his first year but he has had 3 (?) preseasons since to work hard and build a good fitness base but hasn't.

Nahas anyone ?

Could be worth a rookie spot if we can't find a small forward option somewhere else. Not sure I'd want him on the main list though.

I reckon his break was worse than really reported (or first diagnosed)

But, I agree, he'll need to really prove something in 2014....if he's not traded.

He's a lovely young fella though, and very popular with his teammates.

We need to tank. Presason onlylol if we win less then 4 games next season. Can we ask for pp again

Priority pick is gone forever. No one can get one after the Dees being denied this year. To be honest I though Port deserved one after two years of sh1te when they only beat 2 or 3 established teams, and they deserve every plaudit for their rise up the ladder.

We just have to do it the old fashioned way. Its not as though we dont have talent for a future midfield. Viney has fallen in our lap, we have Trengove, Toumpas, Taggert, pick 2 to develop. do yu trhink pick 2 should start with a 'T' ?

I like Peter Ryans (AFL) view on our situation.

He thinks we should target these younger 20-23 year old midfielders (Vince, Lyons, Michie) like we have, select our best kid at Pick 2 and leave the salary cap room to go for a free agent at the end of the year (ie Bryce Gibbs). There will be a few more experienced mids up for free agency next year and depending on how we go this year, we may have more pulling power if we can win more games. Actions do speak louder than words.

I don't entirely agree. It is a longer term approach, that may work out better for us. Plus it is amazing how many people jump ship when a team is on the rise and their own club isn't.

Please no more mention of Nahas. He's terrible.

were still in need of a small forward.

He's been the Tiges 2nd choice small forward behind another NQR in King. Forget about it, I would much rather develop guys like Taggert and Kent as a goal kicking mids.

remind me again who our FIRST choice is as a crumbing fast small fwd ?

Hang on, Richmond are a much better side than us, played finals and Nahas played quite a few games.

Kent will be playing in the middle and Taggert hasn't played an AFL game - going by that, wouldn't Nahas be a better option?

dont let logic get in the way hey !! lol

we have bugger all in the decent small fwd department for 14....just saying

im with you...Nahas could be an option up front. Not desperate to get him but its an interesting notion none the less , for mine.

Yeah I think it's more about replacing players with slightly better ones, if we can't get vastly better players.

That way we should at least be getting better and on a curve of improvement.

This it isnt it. Somehow everyone's (well many ) a notion that we can go a long way to curing all of our ills in one foul swoop of a trade/draft. In all likely hood what we will achieve is a decent leg up but no cure. We can put into place a 'better' team" that can facilitate competitiveness and an incubator for burgeoning talent. We still need shoring up in places other than the midfield. That's our priority but we cant ignore other parts of the ground. we will have tall fwd timber coming out of our proverbials but we still need people at ground level.

GWS have shown there hand too much.

We know how much they want Scharenberg and now we hold the upper hand given they need Sharenberg more than we need to trade pick 2.

Where did they say they want Scharenberg?

I seem to be missing out on all this important news

Vince is 28 or thereabouts.

Those player examples were more meant to be the guys we are currently chasing. Okay, one is outside the suggested age bracket, but most get the idea.

Why is everyone so damn picky on this site? Seems everyone reads posts to pick at grammar, punctuation and facts rather than just discuss. Starting to get annoying.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
