Anyway. I've watched Shiel a bit and I really like the way he goes about his footy. I rate him more than I do some of the other younger players floating about.

I'm doubting the shiel or keep pick 2 scenario. A few tricks left to play out there.

lastly todays rumour was that Stuart Dew is the successor and would have been announced already but for contractual issues. This one was an emphatic rumour so see if its right sooner or later.

Ok 2 put you all out of your misery I was speaking to a Sandy Dragons official today, he said and I quote " Your Mr Roos has spoken to Nate (Freeman) and said there is no reason why we won't take him at pick 2 unless we traded it before hand!" The word (I have heard) out of the club is that unless we can get Dylan Shiels we are keeping pick 2. So from that it is Shiels or Freeman, a win situation!

So Roosy told Freeman assumedly at an interview that if we don't get Shiel we will pick him?...and Freeman told the Sandy Dragons bloke?...who told the coterie member?

Shiel us quick and he is young. Best footy ahead. I'd rate him over Taylor Adams to be honest in terms of potential to impact.

Is he an inside midfielder???

We need some tough grunt to win some ball.

Na, no x factor, no explosive pace.

He's okay, but I reckon there are better ones out there.

This has just proved that you have not watched him play one bit.

I have watched a lot of footy this year especially GWS and shiels has X factor and really good pace to burn. An explosive and powerful midfielder who once matures and gains for experience will be a very scary prospect. Can grab a game by the scruff of the neck and dominate. I witness this when I watched a Murray Bushranger vs Dandenong Stingrays game in Wangaratta one day. Kicked about 4 goals in the first half from the midfield and ran absolutely riot with his explosiveness and power. The guy was rated a top 3 pick in his draft year.

The bloke is as every bit opposite to what you just said.

I watched the footy this year too and he didn't really stand out in GWS's midfield. It's an opinion. Relax.

Hey Jumbo, wasn't it you who said we were no chance to get Roos?

I just read a couple of quotes from P. Roos himself which confirms that Rockliff was a target but is officially off the list.

Thats the best content from this whole thread.

Interesting about him saying he would trade a player before they became a free agent. Message to Frawley perhaps?

What exactly is x factor. Does Dan Hannebery have it, or Sam Mitchell, or Jobe Watson.

Um...so where did he say this?

I think he was using the universal may trade rather than the personal will trade to paraphrase "Pete & Dud".

Was a major topic of conversation in this thread earlier today.

I hope this doesn't come off as sexist or an insult but Ive always just had the feeling that Jumbo Returns is actually a female?

A bloke I work with watches a LOT of footy, occasionally speaks to recruiters and is heavily involved in local footy. He told me he rates Shiel VERY highly and thinks he will become a very tidy player. He sees a lot of young draftees play at regional level in his league and its amazing what he knows about them, their families, their backgrounds, etc.

What roos says is obvious and to me isn't a direct comment towards Frawley, more just logic. Lower clubs will have to trade stars early or face getting shafted later. If you go through my posts from the end of 2013 I was saying to trade Sylvia for this exact reason. (mind you I was told and was thus convinced that he would resign this year)

The article says a lot. It's a message to the players that you sign extensions with the club or be traded. It also tells the football community that only players who are in the Rockcliff or Shuey mould will be on offer for pick 2. It's typical Roos, strong yet respectful.

If you don't overly rate Shiel you may as well stop passing comment on young footballers.

I read this as a warning to Frawley. I reckon he's trying to get him to commit to a contract extension early.

A statement proffered by the Ralph, not Roos.

I don't know why the original post didn't use Roos' direct quote, as opposed to Ralph's, but Roos said this:

“All I can say is it is genuinely on the table. Clubs are sceptical, but if you are going to give up pick two it’s going to be a quality mid (in the draft), or (defender) Matthew Scharenberg so we want something in return. In terms of Rockcliff we would have been interested, but with a new coach (Justin Leppitsch) at Brisbane he would want to stay there. It’s that type of player, but he’s out.’’

Guilty as charged.

I'm not saying don't get him/go after him, I'm just saying he's a blue collar footballer - doesn't excite me and not worth pick 2.

I still cant work out if Kate Upton or that starwars bird is better looking - even after seeing all these avatars...

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
