The Trade/Draft Rumour Mill

I will start this post with "Don't shoot the messenger" Just got home from final clean up function at my local ammo's club. Nearly got into a blue because I refuse to believe the rumour. 2 different sources that Nathan Jones is off to Geelong deal done before Roos came on board. NO. Say it isn't so!!! Heard same rumour at Ammo G.F. last week so if it is so widespread why hasn't it appeared here? Same source has Jeremy Howe off as well which I posted elsewhere. C'mon team tell he it isn't true

Stress less old fella. Jonesy will be a Dee for a long time yet - there isn't anything we'd take from Geelong for him that they'd offer up.

He is also possibly in line for the captaincy. Nate bleeds for the club, he won't be going anywhere.

Oh lol.

He's contracted.

Money is not really an issue. As far as I understand, we aren't even close to the cap. Even if we take a couple of older guys for a year or two at inflated salaries, it shouldn't have too much effect on our list.

It's not money, it's what we have to give up. Montagna as far as I know is not a FA nor is Del, technically that is. The Saints would want more than we should give, not that we would be looking at them anyway.

...and you think this type of deal would be done before Roos came on board??? do you think Roos would be happy about it unless they gave us Christiansen and Duncan.

Can we blame Scwab for this?

Sounds like rumour time is really ramping up now, with Facebook and Twitter etc. it gets worse every year.

Hogan is one tick from the Neeld era, and there aren't many of those.

Recruiting thru the Neeld era was generally very positive - Clark, Dawes and Viney in the 2nd round.

The whole Pedersen, Rodan, Byrnes, Gillies angst is overblown.

Kevin Sheedy said last night that GWS's pick one is on the table for the right player.

Perhaps they will have a crack at Fyfe.

Can't believe the Nathan Jones rumour. That seems ridiculous - on a number of levels.

I'm actually surprised we haven't heard more from the likes of St. Kilda, Dogs, Carlton etc at least sounding out GWS for that first pick. They could offer their own first rounder plus something good in return for getting it so they can draft Boyd, something those 3 clubs need going forward. That's not to say they haven't done so but Boys would be an excellent fit for a number of clubs and GWS isn't really one of them.

Fyfe is the one player that I would throw the kitchen sink at in order to get him. I'm talking first, second and third round picks and without a moments hesitation. Very few players have the capacity to change a football team's immediate future but he is one of them.

Other things I've heard - nothing remarkable.

As everyone knows, Heath Shaw will be at another club next season - possibly the Dees.

I've heard it reported here that Didak has signed a two year deal with Carlton. The talk last night however is that he's off to the Crows.

GWS are having a massive crack at Mumford and are also interested in landing an older ruckman in the twilight of his career from another club (eg, Jolly).

GWS is definitely right in the mix for Franklin.

A lot of clubs were interested in Watts. Feeling is that Roos will turn him into a superstar.

I agree, they can have our 2013 picks across the board for Fyfe.

316, it actually makes me sick that in all this time we have not been able to pick up an out and out star through the draft. If there's a dud to be picked, for the most part, we've picked him. For once, let's fluke a bloody superstar. I don't care if its rumored they have a meth addiction.

S Selwood 2 years to go on contract and likely captain of eagles. N Jones 2 years to go on contract and likely captain of Dees. Neither going anywhere!

Oh lol, you can still trade contracted players...

Nate is contracted and the best player at our club. No way in hell will we look to trade him, and he doesn't have the option of walking until his contract ends. Even then I can't see him wanting out. He's fought for this club from the moment he walked through the doors.

Yeah because Melbourne would trade Nathan Jones!

No of course we wouldn't and I'd bet that he doesn't want to go anywhere. The point I was making was that just because a player may be contracted, doesn't mean that he won't be traded.

I think everyone here except for 'older demon' can be confident that Jonesy is here for the long haul!

The rumour was that it was a signed sealed delivered type deal, which would only work if a player was out of contract and told the club he was not interested in signing a new contract, or was a free agent.

Where does all this "Scott Selwood to be made captain" rubbish come from?

They don't even have a coach in place to make that decision, as early in the piece as it would be.

And the perfect next-captain-after-glass is right there already, in Beau Waters.

It's just bullfish sprouted by people who want to sound like they know something.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
