Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

The James Aish Thread

Recommended Posts

Little line in today's Hun that mentions we are heavily in the race to acquire James Aish at year's end.

Would love him, but still consider it fairly unlikely that he would choose us over the two Adelaide clubs if he leaves Brisbane.

http://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/claye-beams-jonathan-freeman-re-sign-with-brisbane-lions-james-aish-chase-continues/story-fndv8d6r-1227294688058

I think we could do better. Who would be a better choice Aish or Scott Selwood?

I think we look pretty even across the board we just need that class midfielder that can singlehandedly turn a game on it's head to compliment the goers in N.Jones, Tyson, Viney, Cross, Vince, Brayshaw, vandenBerg and Newton.

It might be a pipe dream but if we can get into the 8 or close to it we must go for Dangerfield, we get him and we will explode.

If we get Dangerfield, a lot of Demonlanders will have this feeling in their pants

Speaking to a Collingwood supporter at the VFL match Saturday. Recons that Freeman is very soft. Ducks head in marking contests, doesn't go hard at ground level contest when it is his turn. Very interesting to hear because I thought Freeman would be a good pick up.

After hearing all that much, much happier with Salem.

Media reports that he might be the replacement for Sidebottom.

Theoretically if both Selwood and Aish wanted to come to Melbourne, getting one wouldn’t cost the other as Selwood is an RFA and Aish would likely need to be traded for. If you asked me to pick between the two I’d choose Aish as he has more years ahead of him and a tonne of class. He has the potential to influence games on a regular basis.

That said I think the best midfielder who figures to be on the market at this stage is Treloar. Would take him over Dangerfield. Shiel would be high up on my list as well.

That's where I would be looking 'Chaser', and I think we will be.

Yeah, I'd be surprised if we weren't. Saturday's game strikes me as an opportunity to make a good impression on any Giants wanting to get back to Victoria sooner rather than later.

Still doesn't change what I was discussing with the Collingwood fan.

If this pies supporter was right in his assessment then I'd suggest he wouldn't be in line for a call up.

Make sense?

Robbo tonight on SEN said take it to the bank Aish isn't at Brisbane next year and he said don't count on it being an Adelaide club. Stopped himself from saying Mel... a couple of times (but could have just been referring to the city.

Read over some of the early posts and early articles re: Aish and he was aways very open playing for the dees. Bold prediction for the year - we will get James Aish (not scooter or dangerfield).

The HUN ran an article a few weeks back about us pulling out of the Dangerfield race - could it be because we have our sights set firmly on Aish?

How big is Aish? He looks a little undersized for the prototypical Roos midfielder, modelled on the Freo mids.

Good point, mate, but it's quite possible Roos simply sees him as one of his outside mids, who in time may bulk up. For the time being, he'd compliment our midfield quite nicely. He doesn't appear as tough to me as blokes like Viney or Newton, but his disposal is immaculate and he can be an accumulator. I wouldn't say no.

Nah definitely wouldn't say no, depends what it's going to cost though. Can imagine they wouldn't want anything less than a top 10 pick, not sure there's many players in our list they'd want that we'd give up either.

Recruiting blokes like Aish, Shiel or Treloar should be our highest priority. Not only do you inject someone with a decent amount of AFL exposure and ready to make an impact (see Tyson), but you are also still building a quality team with youth. I wouldn't mind for the next 2-3 years throwing any draft pick we have and bundling them to recruit these type of guys, young with 2-3 seasons under their belt.

would love to snaffle one of treloar, shiel, whitfield, aish, sloane or dangerfield.

the advantage of the latter two is that they're free agents, so other than a bucketload of $$ in the salary cap would not 'cost' the club anything in a trade.

nevertheless, i fully expect sloane to stay with the crows and dangerfield to be at one of hawthorn or geelong in 2016.

I don't rate him, and feel like there would be better fish to try and pursue/catch (Shiels/Treloar etc.). Feel like he is just a quicker, more confident version of Toumpas and i'm happy to give Toumpas time to develop instead of going for Aish.

Can someone convince me otherwise?

Am I missing something here? If he wanted out of Brisbane wouldn't it to go back to Adelaide? What is it about coming to Melbourne that's got this rumour going- does he know someone here or something?

The lure is apparently playing in a big footy market (i.e. Victoria) and that is what he wanted to do pre-draft and by the sounds of it still does.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
