Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

after all this if they settle for choco or eade you can forget it...

that just means we've learnt nothing, & gone nowhere!

Its the Take it On attitude we need, the entrepreneurial attitude that takes the risks then, makes them work, after that... the type that gets you a Olympic Pool to make a home out of.

let's not stand still any longer... fear has no place in a Demon Jumper.

.

So if we don't get Roos we are stuffed then?

And a lot of good priority picks have done us in the past. Ever heard of development of what you've got?

a bird in the hand.........

Neeld was brought in to harden up the team. Wasn't able to take the players with him though.

We have no senior leaders hence the recruiting strategy and the two Jacks as Captains. That bit is not MNs fault. Its the total lack of competitiveness that has been appalling.

The lack of leadership has been profound in the last decade save for Neita and Junior. Bruce, Green, White, Yze were not leaders who could be relied on or drive a teams performance when we were getting beaten.

I blame Gutnick that we have no senior 27-31yo's with 200 games. The draft picks we lost through his squealing are still hurting us.

Pick 5 in 1999 and Picks 32 and 47 in 2000.

But we picked up Green, Whelan, Wheatley, Bruce, Godfrey, Simmonds, Jolly, and Thompson in those drafts.

It hurt a little, but what happened from 2001 to 2007 is hurting us. Only Jamar (2001), Davey, Sylvia (2003), Dunn (2004), Jones (2005), Frawley, Garland (2006), Grimes, and Spencer (2007) remain.

That's 9 players from the seven drafts that give you your 23-30 year olds.

There's only one priority pick in that lot - Sylvia in 2003 but you're absolutely right. Our recruiting and player development during that period left us in a terrible state to start rebuilding after the demise of Neale Daniher and that's where, as you say, it's hurt us.

What style of footy will we play if we get roos? the SWANS style!!! I mentioned b4 what we should do SWANS style, Keep older more experience players in leadership group, easier to rid if

they don't perform, remember they will have to lead by example. i.e play like crap in the seniors drop to reserves. A pity some people can't see the timber thru the forest.

The swans style was built around a group of players and a shape of stadium

it would be the same idea....different group of players and a different stadiium

But then we'd lose a priority pick......

I know you are jesting jnr but that is the root of most of our problems.

CS, CC and others were trying to be very clever and use the system instead of doing the hard work.

I have believed it all my life and still do You win every game possible and then work out who to draft.

All ancient history now.

So lets try to get the MFC out of this hole.

10ooo memberships would bankroll ROOSey

an interesting equation I think

yes, and that's bankrolling the entire thing.. in reality its about the amount MORE that he will cost vs other options.. let's ay he costs 600K more than Eade or Williams, that's only 4000 members. It also doesn't take into account the additional earnings from gate receipts and potentially marketing/sponsorship as a result of performing better on field. From a financial POV Roos is a no-brainer, I can't believe anyone would say otherwise

But then we'd lose a priority pick......

I hope that is a joke

I sincerely hope we are nowhere near even being in contention for a PP. All it is is another chance for everyone to have a go at us over tanking and for our loser mentality to further solidify into the club

FOR THE 800,000TH TIME:

Stop talking about us having made recruiting mistakes

We picked pretty much everyone we were expected to at the picks they were taken, certainly with regard to top5 picks anyway

Whwn you are talking picks from the teens onward it becomes much more speculative and you will find all clubs have not got returns from heaps of these picks

DEVELOPING them is where we have failed, that's why we lag behind behind Sydney, Hawthorn, Geelong, Collingwood etc they have the money, culture whatever it is to actually take these picks and turn them into star players

It's the same reason the Dogs, Saints and Roos haven't quite been good enough, the playing field is not even

So if we don't get Roos we are stuffed then?

no, Matthews,,, Bomba,,, Clarkson,,, Sheedy + Ling,,, would be my preferences, in the interests of poor culture. Matthews, Bomba & Sheedy have all totally changed the club Cultures, at the clubs they've been at, with fantastic success...

Clarko hasn't changed the culture so much, as reinvigorated it. its less obvious in his case as the Hawks always had their Fierce DNA since the 80's.

other coaches have just coached really well, like worsfold, malthouse, & others.

IMO, we need a Culture changer.... 45 yrs says so.

every Club dynasty, has its Ex's who go on to become a top young coach, as both young Scott Twins look like, atmo. the Cats will be no exception imo, the trick will be to Identify who.

IMO Roos , Jackson and the AFL are already talking

Roos would require change and Jackson with the help of the AFL can make that happen

It is not at all unreasonable to suggest that schwab may have been an AFL direction along with Neeld

The AFL would want Connolly paid out and gone as well

I think its all in the timing and we should know a few weeks after Neil Craig's 11 week coaching stint

Jackson knows Roos would be a membership boom for the MFC

While i don't believe in Messiahs i do believe many will look at it that way

Jackson also knows Roos is an excellent coach for the current needs of the club and beyond

Roos would want his own team

Jackson knows that being onside with the AFL who would also agree with the appointment of Paul Roos would have a greater chance of gaining the money

it needs to rebuild the club to the satisfaction of both the AFL and Roos

Our List would look at the appointment of Paul Roos as an attractive reason to remain at the club

Jackson already knows what a successful club looks and feels like and his recommendations would reflect that knowledge and experience in getting the best outcome for the MFC

Ironically so does the AFL and Paul Roos

IMO its a win all round

On the money here...have stated before our drafting & development in 2000s was terrible....& even worse over the last 5 yrs!. Throw Brock Mclean,Moloney & Rivers all should have been leaders but our culture was very poor!

This isn't specifically referring to Roos but say we were able to come to a conclusion about the senior coach before the end of the season (whether it's Roos, Chocco, Eade or whoever). Could this give whoever it is (assuming they walked out on their club if they are involved elsewhere) more of an advantage than other new coaches (eg able to see behind closed doors at training / match days etc

I know it is highly unlikely to play out this way as Collingwood and Richmond won't let the likes of Eade and Chocco leave their clubs mid season or just before the finals and it puts Craig in a very strange position... but I can't think of a time when a coach has been sacked so early into a season - especially given that Melbourne is almost guaranteed not to have the interview process like we have had for Bailey and Neeld - we are going after a known quantity with runs on the board.

How do we use this to our advantage so that the new coach coming in does not have to coach us for a year to know exactly who to trade, delist and draft. You could say it's obvious from watching our games but different players respond differently to different coaches and so some players in line for trade / delisting may be important players under our new coach.

The Ox just said they're talking 1.5M for Roos which could financially cripple us even more and I reckon Choco would do it for 6-700k.

I've got 100% faith in Action Jackson but he'd want to have a 1M Dollar sponsor over the line.

What Django said. The AFL will take care of that. I'm extremely glad for it, but we're clearly being run by the AFL at the moment.

If Roos takes the job, he has been out of footy for a couple of years, so it is going to take him at least a season to get back up and running and get his backroom staff the way he wants it, he then has to work on the team, players are under contract, it is going to take at least two years to get the team together, we are talking about a team here that at the moment is taking beltings by 10 or more goals each week.............Roos will not come in and suddenly next season we have 40000 members and making finals.......posters need to realise that...........unrealistic expectations......happens to both coaches and players on this board

such omniscience!

fantasising. Please, Paul, don't be reading Demonland...

Good luck.

Hey Jack? Dont you know this club has a Messiah complex. Roos will be the next in a long line

Im hoping the off field rabble is fixed so we dont need a messiah just a bloody good coach

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
