Other teams get their run either from half back, or from behind stoppages. They come through at pace and are able to break a line and link up and make their next kick a creative one. We are all stagnant, handball to someone standing still and our next kick is off balance either directly to the opposition or to a contest near the boundary line.

When we take a mark, our players stroll in and out of space. If they actually ran in and out at 100% they would create some opportunities for each other, but they don't.

Our ability to defend opposition kick ins is the worst thing I have ever seen in all my time watching professional sports. I cannot understand how, after 20 odd games in charge, this coaching regime still hasn't managed to teach our players how to ensure there isn't one loose player, usually perched somewhere near the corridor, at every kick in.

Unfortunately it looks like our players are being taught defensive structures (and ordinary ones at that), rather than defensive principles. That's in addition to being taught an offensive style cashes in on momentum with a massive rush of 1 to 3 goals in a quarter.

It even looked like Collingwood felt inconvenienced to be out there today. It was like they were a bit annoyed to have to deal with us.

Worst coached team I have ever seen. I understand our board and CEO are in a sticky situation but unfortunately we need to make a move soon. We will be a 6 to 8 goal better side with decent coaching. Most of our biggest problems can be fixed...but they are not being fixed right now.

They were bigger, stronger and more experienced but we had a crack. Unfortunately, what worked in the first quarter failed after that. The loss of Dawes affected our forward structure and we simply lapsed into a frenzy of self-inflicted errors of which Collingwood took maximum advantage.

Once we eliminate the errors, these games will be 6 to 8 goal losses. Get a few of those injured blokes back and we won't be far away from winning games against our fellow cellar dwellers.

Sadly, that was about par. I think the effort has been far better the last two weeks, which makes it possibly even sadder that we still have had 90 and 80 something point losses in those games. We just butcher it and once the other team apply the pressure we do got back into our shells. I counted at least 4 or 5 times we had simple goals butchered by basic skill errors, only for Collingwood to sweep the length of the field and goal. 12 point f@#k ups I like to call them.

I think there’s enough to work with next year, I really do. Dawes if he can stay fit will be a good pickup, last week and the first quarter today he was immense, such a presence. I never thought much of him at Collingwood but he’s winning me over. Clark and Hogan in 2014 can hopefully string some games together too. Normally you wouldn’t pin your hopes on an 18 y/o but Hogan’s a different specimen. Throw in Jack Viney, another pre-season into Toumpas (a way to go but kicking skills elite), the Jones boys, Kent plays like a kent and has talent (great pick at 48 it would seem)… Frawley and Garland down back. We really should be playing better than we are. I’m resigned to Neeld seeing out the year but get a better football department in next year and a classy ball-user at pick 2 and we may start getting some confidence back. Probably still 2 good mids short of being anything but bottom 4 but we should at least go up from here!!!

Watching the game in the cold the only positives are that the game ended. I am now convinced that the players aren't trying. They run hardest coming off the ground. The girl with the drinks also performed admirably.

Well, that was painful, getting all excited about the great standard set in the first quarter, then watching as bit by bit the wheels came off. Dawes subbed out basically ended the game as a contest, since we had no forward line at all. Our inside 50s were already spluttering out before then, though, and Collingwood just killed us over and over with rebounds which clearly broke out confidence. Before long they were cutting far too easily through the wings and getting quality attacks through that even the stalwart efforts of Colin Garland couldn't do much about.

Having multiple absolutely core players in terms of role, quality and leadership missing continues to leave a question mark on just where we are at - how much difference would they make, would things look respectable with them there?

Before anyone gets too antsy about 'Collingwood's kids killed out kids', remember the layers and how they work. Our kids out there are equivalent to the ones that the Pies would have out there if they suddenly lost all of Swan, Pendlebury, Cloke and Shaw. Our kids are fine, the trouble is that we simply do not have the numbers of quality players to provide a core for kids to work around.

Sigh. Feeling let down, again. Feeling annoyed about what will be another week or two of unhelpful people sniping from the sidelines and stirring up all the media noise they can. David Schwartz isn't the only moron out there hoping for sustained disaster, just so they can claim a mandate to become the new Kings.

A huge proportion of their goals when the game was there to be won were from burning ball going inside 50. We took the game on and looked really good, then turned it over in the corridor so that everybody (usually Garland) got caned on the way back. Once they cut those skill errors out we'll be right in games for much longer.

It's the same thing every week. We have a crack and look ok fighting for the ball, but every time we look like scoring some muppet kicks the ball behind their target, or sends a high floater into the forward 50 and hopes the forward can somehow mark it anyway, then the quick turnaround while we're out of position and a score at the other end. Why do our opponents get so much run out of defence? Because they know we can't hit our forward targets properly and they will in all probability have the chance to get back and contest if they play a little loose on their man. If we can teach our mids to kick low, hard and AHEAD of their target so the player can run on to the ball, we'll be more than half way there.
