I'm not sure they are as keen on Frawley as this rumour sounds.

Up forward they have Dixon, May and Lynch developing nicely. All have different attributes but Dixon can back up ruck and has great mobility for his size. Lynch is their top forward prospect and has nice hands and May as a bit shorter and heavier and is a more a bulldozer type.

It's allowed them to have Thompson looking the goods at CHB and now they are giving Sam Day a shot at full back and he's going pretty well. They also have their top pick from the 2011 draft in Henry Schade 196cm Tasmanian defender who hasn't had a chance yet. I'm not sure on his progress. The suns also rate Warnock. Plus they have some other tall kids on the list.

If we traded Frawley we'd end up with McDonald, Sellar and Pedersen as our talls. I really don't rate Davis but we better include him as well. So we'd have 2 kids with dodgy kicking who aren't great one on one defenders and 2 big lump types who really should be depth. So we'd have to ask for one of Gold Coast's young defenders in return as well as mids I'd say. I'm not sure who would be openly happy to sit watching games with Sellar and Pedersen holding down key spots. Especially given their ages its not like these guys are 21.

Thompson is a beauty, agree their forwards are developing but they could still go either way.

There's no way I would want to lose Frawley, that would be a major setback for us. What gets me angry though is the opportunity lost, with GC & GWS coming into the system we needed to be and should have been pushing top 4 now and it was blown by some very poor decisions. A topic for another time but GC are on the move now and have passed us in their wake.

There may be substance to the story, but it's also published on a Wednesday which is the day the media haul out the dross given last weekend's matches are old news and there's nothing really to write about yet for the coming round.

I note Jay Clark has helpfully noted that Frawley has played in 30 wins out of 109 games. That's a strike rate of 27.5% which I'd venture to suggest is better than his journal's prediction of player movements over the same period.

That is what I said two years ago about Geelong.

The good sides like Geelong, Hawthorn, Collingwood and Sydney just keep reinventing themselves.

They don't consider the bottoming out crap like the MFC .

Anything below the top four is failure.

What we are seeing is the ill thought out consquences of free agency and the gifts to the expansion clubs.

Whilst the AFLPA wants to get more for players and give them a chance to play in successful teams the immediate end game seems to be to put struggling clubs on the chopping block.

Draft picks simply do not make up for lost experience.

It is hard (impossible) to develop talent without experienced talent to support them.

This is why we see so many post here bemoaning the development differential betweeen other teams draft picks and our picks.

Its created a downward spiral not just for us but other teams.

Plundering the weaker teams is now entrenched and they are unable to compete on an equal footing for talent.

Its a serious problem for the competition unless you are happy to lose a few Melbourne clubs .

Agree with The Master here, I don't see Gold Coast's need for him as badly as say St Kilda.

As jman has pointed out it appears that Harry Taylor will be on the move, but to the west, meaning there's a good chance that Mitch Brown who St Kilda have been targetting will be caught up in that trade meaning St Kilda may re-focus their efforts onto Chip.

Frawley's a must keep for me and hope we re-sign him for another 3 or 4 years. But worst case scenario the only reasonable trade I could see coming from that move would be:

Frawley & one of our late picks to St Kilda

Saints first round pick to Gold Coast & Seb Ross to Dees

Gold Coast trade Prestia to Melbourne

Gives us two good young mids who have had a few years in the system. I'd prefer to keep Chip however. Let me stress that!

If the reason he wants to leave is to chase wins i can't see why he'd go to Stkilda, they have a few good veterans keeping them going as it is, Gold coast would be more attractive in that regard, depends if he just doesn't like the club and wants to leave to anywhere i suppose.

To be honest, it wouldn't be the end of the world. McDonald, Garland and Sellar are all capable (or better) defenders, and as long as we traded Frawley this year, we would get some pretty good compensation.

Capable or BETTER defenders? Frawley is still our best KPD by a mile. Garland is closing on him but let's not pretend Chip isn't still our main man.

Definitely need to prioritise locking him in for the long haul.

The opposition love to see him bringing the ball out of our backline they run to the direction he is heading hoping to pick up a mark from one of his ill directed kicks AND the sad part is invariably he delivers the ball straight to one of them...Have a good look at some of the tapes of our recent games. The game has become too fast for him as it is for some of our other players...

GWS and GC will not chase Chip, GWS are very keen on Matthew Leuenberger from Brisbane Lions and the Gold Coast have all key positions covered. They need more senior on ballers so I believe they will be more likely to chase Colin Sylivia. I think St KIlda is the one to watch chasing Chip. Family connection and a massive need of a key defender they will offer lots for him.

Have a look further upfield next time Frawley has the ball in his hands and you tell me what options he has to go to? His decision-making looks slow and poor because he is waiting for one of our players furtehr afield to present a decent option to him. He is not slow physically either.

I could not possible agree with you anymore!. I honestly could not blame him for wanting out. Its been hard enough to support the rubbish we have produced since Chippa came let alone play in that rubbish. He needs to be persuaded that things are on the incline like the rest of us!!!. Go hard out on some quality mid fielders in the draft and trade table. If he leaves, god help us…..
