Gawn has not gawn, he has well and truly arrived

Neeld's around the boundary gameplan relies on big mobile players taking contested marks. If Neeld can survive the year he will have Hogan,Gawn,Clark,Dawes as well as Howe taking contested marks. We may have something brewing here.

The other thing I really like about him is his defensive skills. He seems regularly to turn up in the back half seemingly out of nowhere. There are very few really big guys , and max is seriously big, who either has the stamina or commitment to do that.

I have been watching him at training while he goes through his rehab, and credit to the coaches they have bern putting him through drills with three or four others where they drill constantly from one end of the ground to the other. Max has been outstanding in that. Not only from an aerobic capacity perspective but also his ability to mark and kick on the run. He is actually a very good long accurate kick. He does not need to handball off as a lot of his teammates seen to think he does.

He has the potential to dominate the competition, today just gave us a very exciting glimpse of what is to come...

The Gawn/Hogan show will be quite something

Hope his knees hang in there. The guy's got a lovely presence about him. Recall v Tigers year before last. Gawn made it look easy in the centre bounce while Jamar had to really scrap in comparison.

Good on Dees today. Really proud even though it was v gws. Sheedy was really up for a win today and must be gutted. Good on Neeld.

Looked likely each time it came near him. Extremely happy for him, and happy for the club that he's part of our team

Jamar was absolutely terrible

Gawn was fantastic for a first up performance.

Jamar was not terrible today and put in a lot more than recent weeks maybe the internal competition will be good for him. Better still if they become an unstoppable duo.

This was the first time Ive seen Gawn play and no wonder he was bought into the side.

I thought he was great.

I like the press confrence with Neeld saying hes an old fashion footballer as in carachter (larrikin)

This type of guy can be so infectious on the team. Well done Max !

Jamar scored very highly in Dreamteam. He did enough for the tap ruckman he is. not his fault scraps in the center almost always went GWS' way. he doesnt do enough around the ground but he is a great tap ruckman. His time is up but he has been a great serviceman for the club. let's not ostracise him like we have older players in the past.

Gawn was great. Hope his knees hold up.

mark jamar will be a nervous man if big max plays like that on a regular basis

his tap work in the middle sh!ts all over jamars

Quite the opposite IMO.

Having another big ruckman yesterday highlighted to me that Jamar has been going against two ruckmen each week, and that he simply can't do that anymore.

With another ruckman in the team, however, Jamar looked much better.

In my view, there is a role for both of them.

And yep - like the rest of you - I am very excited about Maxy Gawn.

Surely a "great tap ruckman" would have far more taps going to our players and not just to his feet where it remains in dispute.

But, he was better yesterday, hopefully due to Max's influence

He,s not a line coach!

Well you learn something everyday I guess

I suspect that you missed the irony in my question.

I agree, Gawn is the best thing to happen to Jamar.

He's 110+ kgs and around 210cms, when you get up to that immense size (Sandilands and Bogut the only examples I can think of) injuries happen easily. I pray he stays fit because he could help us get back up that damn ladder.

if - and it's a big if - he can stay fit, the sky could be the limit for this guy.

could we have our very own dean cox with an extra 10cm or so of height?

his movement around the ground for a giraffe is so impressive.

why is it that we seem to get the round 3-5 picks in the draft right, but not the rounds 1-2? just bizarre.

Apart from injury, I can't see Sellar playing another game. Jamar, while not dominant, was much better than last week and I have a suspicion based on no evidence at all that he played better because he knew he had proper support. In previous weeks, Jamar has virtually rucked solo given the lack of competitiveness Sellar and Pedersen provide in the ruck. I think Jamar's career is coming to an end, but I hope we (both MFC and Demonland) pay him the respect he deserves as he nears the end.

Hopefully Gawn and Spencer will provide years of torment for the opposition.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
