Gawn when fit will be our next ruckman.

Spencer as number 2

Next draft we will pick up a ruckman

Definitely not from somewhere on our list. Draft or free agency

Spencer is being kept for depth this year. In case Jamar went down we couldn't rely on Gawn due to injury so we needed Spencer. He'll need to improve dramatically to stay on the list.

I have little confidence in Fitzy but as a ruck his speed might be more useful than first thought. We can reassess him in August.

Gawn on the other hand has really only being set back by injury and has proven he is a beast at VFL and a prospect in some AFL he has played. 2 knee reco's is worrying.

I'd say Gawn is still on track to be an above average starting ruck by the time he's 25 which is the age for ruckmen.

The X factor is big Mitch Clark. With Dawes and Hogan we could transfer Clark to starting ruck and keep Pedersen as backup.

At the end of this year the ruck situation will have to be assessed. Spencer and Fitzpatrick are playing for their careers and if they aren't up to it we will need replacements. Whether they be 18 year olds or mature players depends on who's available. Giles from GWS proved a bargain pick up 2 years ago and now Currie from North looks decent enough to at least be a good back up. Value is out there if we are clever.

Unless Gawn, Spencer or Fitzpatrick come on, I would think the bolded sentence above is right on the money (just not sure about the Pedersen part).

Gawn is the most talented and has something about him i reckon, some confidence and competitiveness and a really good size. - a good chance to make it if he can get over his knee injuries and get some continuity.

Spencer has size and athletic ability with not a lot of football ability - a slight chance to make it.

Fitzpatrick will be thrown on the Pendergrast long list of terrible drafting decisions by this club. delisted end of year and yes will play some good games at Casey. it won't save him.

I agree BR

This season will show if Gawn has the body to endure AFL football.

So far his body has been far from convincing.

But in reality we have seen him on the ground so little he is a guess at this point

Let's not go rewriting history. He was taken at pick 50, for crying out loud. And it's not as if world-beaters were drafted after him, really.

I think that the club would be thinking/hoping Gawn is the next number 1.... And Mitch playing the alternative Ruck... I don't reckon Mitch sees himself as the number 1 ruck.

I can't see why Hogan, Dawes and Clark can't fit up forward... Nth, Richmond have 3 talls most weeks.. GWS (if Sheeds is serious) think that they could play Buddy in with Cameron and Patton.

I hope not!

Why would any supporter hope that Gawny doesnt make it?

Youve really got to wonder sometimes.

Why would you waste Clark in the ruck after seeing him in the fwd 50 last year, Spencer is still growing into the role, Gawn needs to get games under his belt, and Fitzy has had chronic fatigue, diabetes and is still growing but he is more than able to start competing in the ruck, Neelds says so....and then we have Jamar, Pedersen, Sellar......why are we already looking at changing????? some posters astound me

Why, you are reading Demonland, I read it, have a laugh to myself unless it is a vicious attack, then I will post, or just move on.....Melbourne "supporters' on this board will never make me wonder

Spencer? Hmmm nothing special there from my observations

Gawn? No clue whatsoever, almost zero game time so far.

Any ideas?

We might also try and get Hannath back from Freo if they go after Buddy and need cap room, given they have the Giant, Clarke, Griffen, Bradley a Rookie and others.

He is off to GWS Redleg no one else will be able to match their money plus AFL assistance.

Definitely Gawn. This boy has both size and talent - if he can work through injuries. Don't be fooled by the amicable personality and the goofy grin. He is a strong mark and not a bad kick (forgetting his first ever shot on goal!!!).

Spencer is the no. 2 at the moment, but I reckon we will recruit another ruckman at the end of this season.

I think both these guys are on equal footing..Gawn has untapped potential & looked great I thought before he went down..

Spencer has shown ability but injured too often..

Equal for me.

Not so sure, Freo will throw the whole State at him. Then again he may stay at Hawks.

Lucky we are talking about this on this thread Redleg

But I think we have TS all over again.

If the coach says "its buddy, or me", I think buddies gettin' new friends, up north.

Hannath is more valuable now that Sandy has gone down. Sandilands is on the wrong side of 30 yrs now and Freo must be concerned with his string of injuries.

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov
