I was waiting for this. Bailey getting 16 weeks was always going to put us in a precarious place.

We may still have to go to court....

Of course it was 'WYL' the AFL does not work in a vacuum and I have reservations about our settlement here. Too smart by half.

Posted

Yep we should have said all along "fcuk this we are going to court"

All or nothing...you have to spend $$$ to make $$$$.

By rolling over today we are now wide open.

Losing $5million a year would take us out.

Okay.

So if the VCGLR inquest findings are different than the AFL's, where does that leave us, and more intriguingly the AFL?

Will the AFL defend its findings and take on the VCGLR?

FMD, can't we just get a friggin break?

This will start now. There is guilt, so the Gamers are ready to circle.

The greatest irony that will be lost on many is that we were long shots with the bookies in that game against Richmond yet we won easily on the spread. We actually performed much better than the betting market expected us to.

Unlike Carlton who threw games they were favourites in.

yep, but that is the least of our worries now.

The Head Coach has been banned from the game for 16 weeks. We are wide open now bugger it.

We're possibly going to find out what's in the 800 page report now. Although I've no idea how transparent these VCGLR investigations are. Maybe our legal eagles will know.

The AFL's 'want' to keep everyone in the dark (on the detail) has attracted the wrong type of attention by the looks of it.

This is where we see how much damage Anderson and those two arsehats have done.

Even if the practices were dodgy in collecting info, the VCGLR may not give a [censored].

I doubt the VCGLR was even mentioned in that 800 pages.

You wonder if anyone saw this coming from HQ??

And will they care??

I get the feeling we signed off way to early on this festering mess.

Yep, it could just be about the 'evidence', not how it was procured.

More so if the VCGLR look over the report and then make their findings - in turn, they could make a judgement at a later date. We then may find out the detail in the report.

We were alerted and forewarned about a month ago that the VCGLR could get involved. I guess most of us thought that once the AFL came down with a 'Not guilty of deliberately losing matches' we were out of the woods.

but they didn't.

Bailey & Cuddles were suspended.

Guilty. They just changed the backdrop.

Take a chill pill FFS.

As if this wasn't going to happen, and as if our lawyers weren't aware of that.

There is no evidence. There never was. Nobody was match fixing.

Keep the knife away from the wrists, please.

The fact of the matter is that there is no legal case against Melbourne and even Caroline Wilson grudgingly admits it

Demetriou defended his late withdrawal from Tuesday's public announcement saying it had been McLachlan's investigation, not his.

He said the evidence and findings had been put before an independent Queen's Counsel who had agreed the investigation had no sufficient evidence against any other officials or board members.

So the Demons won the legal argument that they did not tank. McLachlan admitted he wasn't even sure what tanking meant.

See the article with hastily changed title -

Demons cleared, guilty, fined

This is a very dark day for the Club. Perhaps the club has never been at greater risk of folding than now with the gaming commission investigation being launched. They are clearly not happy with the outcome of the AFL's investigation or they would not be bothering with this. If the club loses the gaming revenue then that will be the end of the MFC. Im a glass half full bloke but this is a very perilous turn of events.

Gambling agencies, etc should stay right away from our game.

If they go hard against us, they will be at risk that the AFL drops them completely.

The last mob to go against Andy D was the media and look at them drying their eyes atm.

Pretty quick response from VCGLR however, almost as if they were awaiting the outcome.

Eddie's recommendation seems to have been the correct one.

Still your putt AFL and MFC.

Silly sanction from AFL and Gillon has left the door wide open. Wonder if VCGLR will include Carlton and others in their investigations now as we were found not guilty. Surely sooner or later all clubs accused of the same use of the AFL's rules should be drawn into this, as should have been the situation in the first place.

The AFL only needs to send them the Queens Counsel's opinion to satisfy them that there's nothing for them to see here.

Unlike the AFL, the gaming authorities are answerable to someone else and would need to justify the expenditure from the public purse if they went to the lengths involved in a full blown enquiry. Would they do that when an independent Queens Counsel says there's no case in law for Melbourne to answer?

On top of that there's the other clubs who have been accused of tanking in the past. Can the gaming authority ignore the Kreuzer Cup of Terry Wallace's admission that he didn't coach to win in order to get Cotchin?

Time to start writing to your local MP's.

Pffft....

It's all sewerage down the pipeline now.The deal is done and they can all go and get farked.

Mark Robbo probably feels "confused and insulted"most of the time because he is a dunce and a [censored] living in complex times.

Any other beatches wanna crack?

I've got a special hatred building for Carlton.

Brock,Flack,BP and possibly Paulo? seem to be the snitches .

We've copped enough Flack.

Time to give these Carlton hoes the hypocrit Blues.

I'm also an eternal optimist, but I agree. Losing the pokies revenue will be the death of the club, wonder who they'll merge us with.... Probably Essendon.

Not the worse idea I have heard!

They are building a lovely new complex near the airport.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
