"Tanking"

Recommended Posts

Former Melbourne star David Schwarz yesterday told the Herald Sun a negotiated settlement would save the league from significant fallout.

"This is such a hard decision for the AFL. This would have gone to court. Melbourne doesn't have to pay for legal representatives, because it has more lawyers than supporters."

Am pondering my feelings about being the club of choice for lawyers (please don't take offense WJ)

Relax folks.

Wilson's story is based on the unofficial outcome of the tanking investigation as discussed around the water cooler by the receptionists, PA's and cleaning staff in the building four doors to the south of AFL House.

The unofficial finding sounds flimsy, childish and schoolyard to me.

Balance from the H/S. A one-sided view from the Broadsheet, full of embellishment and mistruths. The clubs view was not accurately stated. Of course, they could only get the clubs view if they were able to talk to them. It's doubtful that there is any meaningful dialogue between the Club and the big paper.

The reality is that the H/S article is fair and measured and the other one is very poorly written re the content and obvious bias. There is no real attempt at balance. Imagine if the stories were reversed in the time they were published. Most of us would be largely dismissive of the 'later' article.

There was mention of the disequalisation strategy with regards to the 'possible' fine.

While a heavy fine is likely, Melbourne is handed money from the AFL's disequalisation strategy so would have the league effectively funding their fine.

And the possible ban on Connolly could apply to the football dept only.

Chris Connolly also faces a likely ban from the football department, but he has worked away from football in a marketing role for 18 months.

Of course, we still have no real idea of the absolute truth. We just have to wait. Everything said in both papers could be pure speculation. Though the H/S article is at least 'believable'. Obviously still prefer to hear directly from the AFL or the Club.

I find it disturbing that the club has not been told. No official announcement from the AFL. Yet there is an article on the AFL website with the finer details of the outcomes. Seriously the whole thin is a bloody circus.

This article has all the hallmarks of a fishing expedition. A bit like when a Government leaks a proposed policy and then sits back and monitors the media for responses. Depending on the level of the reaction they then determine whether to proceed with policy. Either that or Kero is just having one last ditch effort at trying to influence the AFL. In what world is $ 500,000 a light penalty? My guess is $500,000 is the lump sum total and could be made up with several different components.

So it should coming from a spoiled little bully girl brat who is suddenly finding herself exposed and shown to somewhat less than competent.

"Unofficial excuses" and rabid supporters indeed!

This is just taken from the Age report.

MELBOURNE will not be stripped of draft picks but will be hit with a $500,000 fine when recommendations from the AFL's seven-month tanking investigation are handed down, reports say.

They give the impression that it's from the AFL commission.

I know what you think Dr. G....If the club rolls over to these charges they have had their last membership from me.

We Fight as the President stated....

Will you stop posting too?

I'll kick in $1000 towards the fine if you will.

Nasty, mean spirited and inappropriate. That's why I chose not to post it when I thought exactly the same thing.

I'll take that as a compliment from you, thanks!

Finally BB is justified in his faith in Caro to get it right after 40 mis-fires. It's slightly more severe that I posted earlier but - where do I sign!

But has she got it right?

Just remember, the more times she gets it wrong the sillier both she and Fanbob look.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
