I would love to see Dom Barry play a lot of footy this year but I am trying to keep it realistic.. So I am looking for examples of skinny first year players in AFL history who have made a real impact eg Robbie, Dyson Heppell.. Give me hope!

Myself I don't expect to see Dom barry much if at all this year as we try to instill a new hard edged way of play culture into the Demons jumper.

If I was planning our future trajectory, I'd be showing our more senior players how we want the Demon way of play to move into, with a mixture of mature recruits showing they're games, & adopting Neelds tactics.

I would think I'd hold Barry back to emerge next year along with Hogan. In an already shaped hard to play against culture.

I'd make it harder for the kids to break into the team earning they're stripes thru guts & bloody hard work.

I think we're all getting a bit seduced by grunt and muscle, let's not forget how badly we've needed outside run in the last few years, and judging by training reports Dom may have a role to play in that this year. Can't have 22 Magners running around out there, need some flair and bursts of speed too. I don't expect Dom to light it up this year, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him play 10+ games.

From what I've read in the various training reports, it wouldn't surprise me if Barry gets quite a few games this year.

We need outside run and carry.

I'm really looking forward to seeing him play - along with Toumpas, Rodan, Evans, Matt Jones and the Aaron Davey of old.

It's great to see him running with the best of them and showing off his kicking skills at training but until we have seen him in a practice match at the very least, my expectations on him will be zero. In saying that, he could play every single game but there is no point putting expectations on him prematurely.

Since when did you have to be big to be hard at the footy and man? If the boy has the right mental approach to contests, and also provides outside run and carry then why shouldn't he play? Cause of a number on a scale?

Barry sounds like the type of player that will be better at AFL level with more space and better general skills and quality than VFL level.

I'd have Rodan in, no bigger but more mass. I'd have Byrnes in. I'd have Viney in. And maybe Toumpas, depending on how he's shaping up, he's already played some SA senior footy. and gives some run outside. Add Strauss, & possibly Pederson, Dawes & I think you'll find we have almost too many changes to start with with a view to settling the side down & getting some momentum & consistency.

Then we have Blease, & Aaron Davey who want games???

Barry can wait, unless he turns into Peter Matera overnight.

Thats the impression I got from the Youtube footage of him. He's not what you would call proactive when the ball is in dispute.

5 senior games will be a big win for him. The gap b/w AFL and TAC cap is growing every year. Can't expect a kid to have the physical durability or fitness base to do anything more.
