You seem sprightly enough to me, but if that's the case, perhaps you could consider becoming Very Old Dee?

I guess it is the time frame bing181.

IMHO the MFC will struggle to make the top 4 before 2018/9.

We simply still have an average list at best and it will take IMO again a decade to get us to a grand final let alone win one.

On that basis add ten years to my age and I thing it is doubtful I will be around.

I seriously doubt it will happen in my life time we are coming from the bottom and in the current era it is long way to the top and there are a couple of new teams that the AFL are determined to see win a flag before us.

As well as another 15 sides who will not roll over and let us pass them.

I would like to spend what may be my last decade watching a powerful club that wins a lot more games than it loses.

If a miracle should happen and we snag a flag over the next ten years I will be a very happy guy.

I'm hoping for 10 wins this season; wouldn't that shut the knockers up.

Yes, in fact I reckon eight would especially if we could beat the Pies on QB

I've always liked Neil Craig and the way he handled the presser last week just reinforced my view. But nobody has really been able to tell me what he does ...

Well, if nobody can tell you what he does, it follows that he doesn't do anything.

I suppose the only possible course of action then is to sack CS.

Yes, comprehension takes two.

One to explain and another to listen.

Nice to see you have an opinion baysidedave

Pity it is not a little more expansive

l do have an opinion but l'm sick to death of thinking about, talking about and reading or listening to bullshyte from media and pessimistic 'supporters'. l heard Rohan Connelly saying if they touch us then at least 8 other clubs should have the same to them. Patrick Smith says Demetriou should resign if anything happens, and Mark Fine says its a load of bollocks. Its mainly 'ugly' Wilson and perth's Denham who lead this. If they do charge us both Richmond and WC should go down, it would be interesesting to see what those two wankers would say then. Like Connelly said the AFL are going for easy target, bet they won't do it to Carlton, Collingwood, Richmond WC, Freo etc

Small dreams. I hope we steal somebody else's 'Jesse Hogan'.

Maybe even two.

Reading your posts OD, I fear you have a reason for wanting instant success as Its like you have a diagnosis of dementia. Its either this or you will be in an old ppls home in 2018 and you fear the whiskey will not be on offer and a valium will be administered to curb your over the top behaviour come a Demon premiership.

If I was you, I'd ask family to bring you home for a week (from your aged hostel) and tell them you to feed you your drug of choice for a week. You may forget the win due to your old aged, but you will remember the premiersip for 5 minutes. Better than nothing really

Were we tanking - of course.Should it be punished and is it provable - of course not. All sports that share a similar draft system find that poor teams participate in uncompetitive practices once there is no hope left other than the future. This is actually a good thing for all, youngs get blooded etc. etc. No sport other than the AFL incentivises such behaviour so clearly. By offering priority picks they skewed the draft. Drafts allow all teams fair access to the recruiting pool. The priority picks changed this. 4 wins meant (prior to trades) Melbourne had pick 1,2,18... 5 wins would have resulted in 1, 17......There is no way that anyone in their right mind doesn't lose games to get the free pick. The AFL made a huge error, they should admit as much and move on.

its exactly what we did in 2003 and 2007 - win 5 games. i fact we r the only team to win 5 games in the PP era I believe.....

Tanking is just an excuse to say we were not really as crap as we pretended we were...

No, tanking describes our decisions as a football club.

What knockers ?

And what are they knocking us about ?

It doesn't make sense to me either.

I don't think it will stop anyone inferring that we tanked in 2009.

Daniher and Northey are the only 2 decent coaches i have seen coach this club.

we haven't had many have we, & those we've had, have gone on to coach successfully elsewhere...

Not surprised this has got back to some Bailey bashing. I am not surprised his career with us was a failure. The meddling by incompetents like CC and CS into FD matters is documented fact, aside from Whiteboard Wednesday, tanking, poor player development, recruiting, player revolts etc. All this after the meddlers took over. We will never really know if he would have been a good coach because he had too many banana skins placed in his path. What is telling though is the high regard he is held by players. His success as an assistant at PA. And his good work in assisting Sanderson in helping Adelaide rise like the Phoenix last season. With Neeld so far, his first season really sucked. All I see at this stage of his career is a good flogger of horses but not much of a leader of men.

You sound like gardiners boyfriend.

dig him up, he'll be good for some fertilizer to.

No, tanking describes our decisions as a football club.

Depends.

Not sure I can agree that we "tanked."

Since there is no single unanimous definition of "tanking", it's subjective, isn't it?

And I was under the impression that the most commonly accepted definition was when the players are instructed to lose the match.

It's a conceptual argument after all: what makes "tanking" so heinous?

It's really the practice of "taking 1 step backwards, in order to take 2 forwards."

It's just on a grander scale than playing a kid who is not quite ready yet, but to give him a taste to aid his development.

There are many other practices that are counterproductive to winning in the short-term, but with long-term gain in mind.

What many view as "tanking" is just the extreme.

And despite the intention, it is actually more detrimental to the fabric of the club than it does good; I'm in the same camp as BH, in that I strongly supported it at the time, demanded that we "do whatever it takes", but I now see the error of those ways.

I think we were also a victim of the circumstances at the time.

Tanking was becoming an increasingly hot & frowned upon topic, thrust into the minds of the players by the media.

There was no ignoring the possibility, or failing to recognise it.

The administrators were fully aware of the opportunity that we needed to take full advantage of, and undermined the club's and the players' integrity in the process.

The shame is, I think we probably would have still received a pick without resorting to those tactics.

But we did "whatever it took" to make sure we got the picks.

Denham bags the club and CS in particular but I haven't heard him over doing the tanking thing with us, don't confuse his dislike of the MFC with the tanking debate, that has been CW pretty much on her own with some help by the me too's who want to get in on the act (not mentioning you Jay). Denham is the only journo I've heard tip a bucket on WC and he gave specific positional moves that helped them lose and get the draft picks they were after.

Connelly and Fine have been more even handed and Pat Smith is running his own unique take on it, I know a lot here don't like Smith but I like that he puts up a good argument and is thought provoking even if I don't agree with him, he can't ever be accused of being anyones stooge.

Claims he was lined up by certain elements at the MFC.

Hopefully, that side of the story will now start coming out ... we await some interesting developments.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
