Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Clearly the d...ckh....d factor didn't work in his favour but the kid is reputed to be immensely talented. This is not Dan Connors we're talking about.

Should we consider rookie-ing him or picking him up in the PSD?

If he's a d...ckh....d, the last thing any club would do in today's environment is tie themselves to a 2-year contract first up (either through the ND or PSD).

If he's got plenty of talent, rookie at best, and get him training at the club beforehand to test his character, will, application and ability to reform.

The fact is it isn't any clubs responsibility to draft a player and then try and nurture him into wanting to be an elite athlete. A player has to want the opportunity and then the club and player benefit.

What on earth would possess you to post THAT on a public medium?

There is stuffing up and getting into a bit trouble and then there is the above - on social network just before draft time. At least Daniel O'connor ( who i also dont want) made noise about wanting it bad and going to do all the right things. This kid is a giant no for me

We'll pass, he'd be good for Carlton though.. they love those players and collingwood

Surely you don't purge your list of those not fully committed to go and recruit a player that embodies much of what you were trying to eliminate.

Precisely, with a player like that, if you are interested in him, you put the onus on him to show you 12 months of good solid football and good behaviour with a lower level league and if he fulfilled certain criteria you'd consider recruiting him. Random drug tests including Alcohol and a requirement that he live with a family in this state and have a curfew of midnight. If he was serious and if he was able to cope with the conditions then a Rookie spot awaits.

If some other club wants him, good luck.

Can't believe we've gone this far in to the thread without some inane comment about only recruiting choir boys and getting excited about what "mongrel" this guy would add.

Anyway, I wouldn't bother recruiting him full stop, even with all the caveats Robbie has listed above. It would just be a complete waste of time and resources trying to keep a guy like him on a straight path, then you've got the worry of his influence over other young players, and it would be a case of when, not if he eventually stuffs up.

I'd rather we found another Jordie McKenzie in the rookie draft - a modestly talented kid who would give his left nut to play AFL football and plays and trains accordingly.

This would be a clever ploy to manipulate the draft... if any club were to ever go to those lengths.

Makes you wonder just a little.

The timing and requisite blatant stupidity make it a little suspect...

I think that's the point -- that photo is only the tip of the iceberg.

It's truly a sterile world now when someone who is 18 cannot have one beer and one cigarette without being pilloried by hand -wringers .

Sure it's dumb to put it on FB while the draft is happening but FFS-all of you who have written him off for life over this photo should get a grip on reality .

he may be naughty but if its the same Garlett that played rep for WA then he can tear teams up .

Thats all that I care about .

Oh he smokes! Oh how terrible!

Harden up!

The recruitment of a new player represents a huge investment by a club's football department in terms of financial resources, time and opportunity cost. From a player's perspective an AFL career is a huge opportunity, they need to be able to convince a prospective club that they recognise the opportunity and that they will fully commit to making the most of that opportunity.

It's all well and good having raw natural talent, however without the requisite drive to make the best of themselves a player is likely to be found wanting at the highest level.

Given that daft social media posting (a picture tells a thousand words), Garlett's now the one who needs to "harden up" if he's serious about an AFL career.

It's more than a ciggie. Until a few weeks back he had a photo on his Instagram account of him that involved him taking drugs like he was in Scarface. Any club that picks this kid up will have to deal with a media onslaught. Clubs barely picked up a Brownlow medalist in Ben Cousins when he was found to be into drugs, so why would they bother with an unproven kid with bad attitude like Garlett. He's not worth it and his afl career is likely over before it began.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
