You may be being a little hard on him WYL. If the article in todays Sin is correct then Ricky was suffering far more from his injuries than was public knowledge. Also I was impressed by Pettard taking responsibility himself for his poor year and not blaming Neeld/Club. Anyway, good luck to him.

We learned of the Achilles injury in the Club assessment of Petterd. No-one can play with such an injury and I suspect he has not done justice to his situation by trying to return when not fit.

If the Achilles is fully recovered (and it's a big "if") why shouldn't MFC re-list him as a rookie?

If fit, who would you prefer,Byrnes or Petterd?

It's pleasing to hear that at least he takes ownership of his own poor form. It's a refreshing attitude from the "it's everyone else's fault except mine" attitude we've heard a bit of on the way out recently.

I've never been under the impression that he couldn't play, and wouldn't be surprised if he is able to eek out more of a career if his body is able. That said I agreed and still agree with the decision to let him go; as Ricky said himself in that article, clubs can't wait around forever.

You're a bit like me SS12 you don't like to let go of any players but at some stage you have to.

I'm a lot less like that than I was five years ago. These days I form zero attachment to players who contribute little. I have full respect for all players, especially those that give 100% and have their bodies battered and pounded basically just for our amusement, but these days I form little personal attachment to the individual players and cutting them causes me no anguish at all.

This might change again once we start winning games again.

I once thought Ricky was a potential star for our club, but his 'star' has certainly faded over the last few years. Maybe injury; maybe attitude; maybe just not good enough; and possibly a bit of all three, but the bottom line is, he never got anywhere near playing consistently good football. It was certainly time to move him on imo, and I would have no regrets if he is able to rejuvenate his career at another club. Good luck Ricky.

I think he's definitely been unlucky with the injuries, but I reckon that dropped mark against Collingwood did his head in....I also heard him on SEN the other week, full of praise for the MFC not a bad word against his former club, understood the process of list management. Good bloke, I also remember he knocked back a reasonable offer from Gold Coast a couple of years ago and stuck with the dees.
