THE WILSON FILE - the arrogance at the heart of the innuendo

Wilson was in good form on 3AW tonight.

In the space of ½ an hour she sacked Essendon CEO Robson, chief assistant coach Bomber Thompson and had Mick Malthouse under the pump at Carlton.

It's what comes from working at Fairfax media where they sack people left, right and centre to the point where its so much a part of life that journos like Wilson must think sacking's an everyday occurrence everywhere.

WJ I think she is right with the first two.

How can they have no idea what was going on at the Bombers last year.

They should go

I would add Hird to that list too 'old dee', surely he must have noticed 40 players wondering off over the road to the botox clinic. As senior coach you've got to at least ask questions.

It was lovely listening to Finey on SEN after last night's game giving Wilson and to a lesser extent, Patrick (old fossil) Smith the payout of all payouts. He came of a long run up and went BANG. He said Kero should be called the Age Chief Gossip Writer. He joked (at least I thought it was a joke) that she's the only footy journalist he knows who goes to the ground to do a pre-game radio show but leaves before the first bounce.

I would imagine that she has just made it up.

After attending the commencement dinner on Thursday night I reckon there's a good chance that this throwaway line was a made up story. I assume her story came from an informant who bears a grudge against the club in the same way as the informants who came up with the Mifsud lie and the ones who embellished the vault. Speaking to some of the players at the dinner it became clear when I dropped the odd comment about Stephen Dank that many didn't know the name, let alone what he looks like, which makes it highly unlikely that "several" of them would have noticed him around the AAMI Park precinct. I also discovered that lots of people randomly visit the place which is the home of three major sports clubs in this city. I myself once saw Ange Postecoglou walking into the place. Next time that happens, I'll just assume that he's joined the Melbourne Demons coaching staff.

Point is that we should remain armed and alert about nasties like Wilson and I'm glad that Don McLardy said at the dinner that the club won't be silent when members of the media make snide attacks at our club in the future.

I found the bolded bit interesting Don't get me wrong I thought the club and in particular The Don handled the tanking drama really well and also handled CW well, particularly the measured comments directed at her by Don after the unofficial defence crap.

But I thought her her snide comment about Dank in an article that had nothing to with the MFC was out of order and if the club were not going to remain silent when besmirched I wonder why they seemed to have in this case (perhaps they've done something behind the scene?)

I would absolutely love for every Demonlander to send through an email to the Age and say "we would be more than happy to subscribe or re-subscribe to your news paper if you got rid of her, she is the one that is driving your customers away, shes trying to be the Kyle Sandilands of the AFL football department!. If you got a few thousand people to write in, the pressure on her would be incredible. I reckon CS & CC would be keen!.

Caro shares the love - she'll shoot at anything that moves ...

Fifty-5 I think she has written a fair piece.

Would anyone at Hawthorn have a go at Buddy before he re signs?

I doubt it.

I think we have another TS case here.

He is off to GWS

Agree "old dee', he's not going to be at Hawthorn, that's looking to be more certain as each week goes by.

Not sure West Coast would like him with his mate over there either, could be a backwards step.

She went easy on him. If it had been an MFC player the words pathetic & disgusting would have been used along with incoherent.

Incoherent on what Lance??

Hmm... You certainly are a protected species if my sources are correct.

Apropos of nothing in particular, when a player changes clubs does he take the number of strikes he's accumulated with him and, if so, is the club he's going to made aware of that number?

PS: apologies if the question sounds a little incoherent.

The strikes are his and not tied to a club, and I would think the new club like the old would still be in the dark. Makes for some pretty risky business.

Does raise the interesting notion of does the AFL have a duty of disclosure where it can and should affect a commercial decision .

She managed to write a article today on Longmire and got through it without trying to sack him, or any one!!!!

I spat my tea all over the paper!!!

I think some one else wrote it and she stole it and shoved her wrinkly mug on the page.

I can confirm that I've seen her on multiple occasions leaving the G shortly after the first bounce (as I'm usually running late).

I reckon this little snippet was so well hidden it'd have slipped through to the keeper.

I'm now amazed that clubs chat to her at all. Surely there is a point where you burn so many bridges that you get to the point where you just make things up. Hang on ......

  • 4 weeks later...

So from this thread I think it's clear we can surmise ONE of the former employees white-anting the club and leaking to Caro/the media is Ian Flack. It seems he was the leak on the Mifsud/Davey affair as well as at least one of the leaks on the tanking saga.

It begs the question, is he actually a "Melbourne" man or just someone who happens to be a former employee of the club? Either way we need to make sure he is not welcome back in any capacity regardless of who is in the admin at the time and any current board members/employees need to sever all ties with him immediately if they haven't done so already.

I'd also like to concur on seeing Wilson leaving the ground before the game has started, she did so last week against GWS - I didn't see her bu my brother did if I do see her again I'm going to give her a serve, something about leaving before the game starts a d not actually giving a damn about the game itself only muckraking, running agendas and trying to get people sacked. How can the Chief football writer of a major newspaper know nothing about the actual game itself? Say what you will about Yobbo, sorry Robbo, at least he actually loves the game.

And the proof is?

And Caro left a game between 17 and 18th on the ladder? So what. She does not do match write ups and probably attend the pre match. She did pay tribute on Footy Classified twice on the turnout of MFC supporters to such a game given everything the club has been through.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
