Caroline Wilson's descent into gutter journalism

I'm still fascinated to see what happens with The Age's sponsorship of the Melbourne Football Club following this unbridled attack.

I surely don't expect them to be biased towards the club, but it appears to be the direct opposite.

Over-correction maybe?

Unacceptable nonetheless.

I think that the Daily Maggot says everything that the AFL need to consider on this tanking nonsense: http://thedailymaggot.com/?p=2390

The footy news cycle is a bit slow and this tanking suggestion is being over analysed. In my opinion, it will be too hard to prove in regards to handing out sanctions. If I'm wrong then all the other clubs that have sat at the bottom of the AFL ladders during the era of priority picks will come under scrutiny. A mess the AFL will avoid at all costs.

Absolutely the club can't be sanctioned over this. Flippant or not, there would have to be evidence that actions were taken to loose games, as a direct result of directions given. I agree if he said it then it was probably in a humorous way. Even if he said it in anger, then who knows he may have countered it 10 minutes later with, "you all know I was only joking". In which case there is absolutely no case to answer.

Caro - has no credibility headlining an article from a joke. Honestly, who do you know in the club who takes CC's jokes as a threat or who was disgruntled or easily offended to remember this?

Who leaks al this grabage?

If we can be sanctioned over a joke over the cirumstances we were in, surely so can Carlton with Libba's and Fev's "Tanks very much" comments. This is getting more strict than blapsheme against the holy prophet. Get perspective please and just write about Hurrican Sandy ffs

Club should be on the front foot like Eddy would be Typical weak melbourne response roll over play dead play by the rules jolly good show What?

The reality is the Eddy wouldn't have to be on the front foot, because the media, the AFL and the questioning on looker.... Wouldn't dare question Collingwood in this way..... Pays to have power....

It's a typical weak response, because we are a weak club...... If we were strong...... We'd have nothing to respond too.....

Dear AFL, I'm having a glass of red. How's life? Ever been to dreamworld? It's fun.

Anyway, hope all's well. Nothing to see here. Take care.

Jesus fkn christ. Can you just wait out until something concrete happens before you start slitting your wrists and popping valium?

It's the fact that has been made such a big issue that is frustrating

Is losing on purpose illegal?

We did. Everyone knows that. Most of us endorsed it.

We lost to try to win a premiership. The hard way.

The afl set up the plan, with a lack of logic.

We must all acknowledge that stupidity of the system and move on.

Maybe that fat cat dimetriou should be the first one sacked.

He is a [censored]. He fukced the incentives.

Supporters want 2 things.

1. Premierships

2. Heros

He sold us the notion that losing can win us heroes, and then premierships. In saying that 80% fell for it hook line and sinker.

Karma wins.

Wilson's latest effort - Demons: shock & awful

Just a whole lot more abuse, really - having a free hit. Whilst it's tempting to have a whack at her, better to let this all cool down and then act.

Her writing is more lurid, less evidence based (unless she has the emails, she only has hearsay), and more sensationalist than ever. Lost what little respect I had for her,

Caro's still going on about us tanking for Tom Scully. Now, I know the papers trawl these forums looking for posts to highlight so I'll make it easy for them.

What actually happened

1. (priority) Tom $cully

2. Jack Trengove

3. Dustin Martin to Richmond

What would have happened

1. Tom $cully (not a priority pick)

2. Dustin Martin OR Jack Trengove to Richmond

Her attention to detail (or lack thereof) is a disgrace. Doesn't mean we won't get stooged by the AFL in the end, but I'll happily join North fans (for the first time ever) in abusing her for the rest of time.

That said, if we beat Richmond then they would have finished last and had the no. 1 pick, which they would have used on Scully.

So Scully came to Melbourne because of that loss, even though Trengove ended up being the PP.

i am actually shocked at how ridiculous and personal this article is.

Someone at the club really did something wrong to Caro somewhere along the way as I have never seen her write something with such vengeance before. It is written from the heart, with no facts to support it.

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

Absolute bile spitting dribble. Looks like she is another Demonland reader as well? GAFY Caroline! Like you say...wait until allegations are formally put instead of through this self anointed, judge, juror and executioner and deal with them in due course. I think the column reads as a sourpuss response to the MFC's media release this arvo. She has nil idea of the concept put forward in the MFC media release of natural justice.

It actually makes me wonder if someone associated with the club has actually rung her and told her to pull her head in.

CW is only one person, with one opinion. And try as she might, an opinion that will not be factored in when the AFL makes its judgement. She seems hell-bent on proving otherwise, but alas, it will be to no avail.

Our president today reminded those investigating, that trial by media is not acceptable practice when conducting an investigation. CW knows this, and knows that her opinion will have 0 influence on the outcome. Unfortunately, she simply doesn't want to accept it, and it is quite sad really.

She talks about the lengths at which we went to when 'tanking'. I'd suggest to her that she is going even further with her journalistic smear campaign. How bad a quality for a football club to be tanking??? Caro needs to wake up and realise that she is of a worse quality than the MFC with this continued vendetta. How hypocritical and ironic.

But worry not MFC fans, i'm pretty sure she will get what's coming to her, one way or another. Our legal team will see to that.

Not necessarily, if we'd won the ladder after R19 would have been

13. Richmond (18)

14. North Melbourne (18)

15. Melbourne (16)

16. Fremantle (16)

With about 0.9% between the bottom two. Freo won the next week, but I suspect if they'd gone last they'd have ensured they didn't...

I hate to think what the Melbourne vs Freo game would have been like if we'd gone into R20 on four wins each and a sliver of percentage separating the two teams - but we would have still been very much in the mix to finish last of our own accord.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
