Open session,Don't they train in public park land next to punt road.

Anyone braving the rain today?

Presumably TV cameras. Not because of the merit of the training itself but because new pictures allows a re-hash of the 'tanking' story. I'm tipping at least one of the news services will say 'Demons in crisis' and another will try some how try to blend 'tanking' with 'Watergate' to make the barely intelligible 'tanker-gate'.

reason for edit: turning it into English

No the first headline will be "Cyclone Caro" blows ill wind at Goschs paddock.

The tent that covers the players gear whilst on the track was picked up in a sudden gust and carried about 20m over the top of an MFC van.

Luckily no one was injured, but did create a light moment.

Typical first day session nothing to report at this stage just clearing the cob webs.

Good turn up of cameras which outnumbered supporters.

Most players turned up about 9:30, but Jones, Gawn, Pencil, Tappy and a couple of others turned up about 10:15.

I left as I was freezing my bits off and thought I could better fill my morning doing something constructive.

So here I am having a coffee and typing.

I'll let the die hards comment further after they get back from staying the journey

Thanks. Always grateful to those who go and who then share their views. And it's worrying that for the last few years there are more highlights and greater enjoyment reading training reports than actual match summaries.

Was there for half an hour. Cold.

The tent blew down.

5 news crews, 25 or so supporters.

Pretty relaxed looking start, followed by the usual leading/field kicking drills.

Hard to know who was missing without a fresh list in front of me.

Nothing spectacular to report:

Pederson's not as big as I'd expected, standing next to Dunn was maybe a tad shorter.

Tommy Mac seems to have put on a bit of size across the shoulders.

Trengove and Tapscott maybe a bit slighter.

Taggert is solid enough in the legs, not so much in the bicep.

A group of players came out from AAMI as I was about to leave including Gawn, who doesn't look as much of a bobble-head on an icy pole stick as he did last year, now has a bit more body, Spencer, Fitz, Jones, Tynan and Hogan.

Didn't see these guys on the track at but was heading off. Good to see Hogan there, was taking it all in and when he fills out a bit should be a beaut.

Agree - I noted that the training drills / structure looks pretty much the same as what they were doing towards the end of last year. Perhaps part of this 16 month pre-season?

No Rodan on the track. Agree TMac looks to have filled out a bit more. Also I saw Trenners kick the ball a good distance (taking into account the wind) and moving freely for those with fears about possible OP.

Thanks Swooper. I'm glad Jack has recovered from something he didn't have.

Did you notice any signs of tanking being practised at training?

I assume that is why the media were in force

Well it was rumored that sometimes players did not show up to training sometimes under Bailey, but that was back in 2009

It may have been my imagination, but I too thought a few players, such as Trengove and Grimes, looked finer. It was the first thing I noticed.

He looked (Trenners) a bit finer in the legs, it may have been an optical illusion but during the season he looked so heavy in the legs. I think he will be one that really steps up next season.

Any chance that Jack Watts looks like man mountain and is he traing the house down?

It is preseason - they will all be "training the house down"! ;-))

I guess that would depend on your definition. We're they each and every one "playing to position" and "making every effort to win every contest" or maybe even "experimenting" no less! Shocking stuff, and irrefutable evidence of a tanking culture.

Was Caro there? Trying her darnedest?

I'm not looking forward to the first intra-club match. Caro will be nut-deep up us if there's too much experimenting going on...

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
