WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - DAVID RODAN

Demon Head

Recommended Posts

Its only pick 88..... but Im concerned that he will take up spot for a kid

We have lost experience with Rivers & Moloney both late 20s & every list needs a mix of older, mid & young

Only time will tell..... the swans continue to be masters at recycled players

Not nearly as happy with this one as all the other trades. Positive is we have basically given up nothing. Negative is we have to delist someone for him and I'm not sure its a sure bet he will be a better player than them. Hope to be proven wrong however. Welcome Mr Rodan I will give you all my support as you are now a demon.

at least we havent traded Gysberts for Prismall!

Rodan will be ok. I think when we see the list for 2013 people will realise there are still plenty of kids there. I do feel sorry for grenny though, im sure he might be a little perplexed at this signing when he might have been persuaded to retire?

Had a bit more of a think and a read......if he gets fit he can be a damaging midfielder.....but he can also teach......Premiership winning player again.....the Footy Dept seem to be building a theme/team here

Erm, no. Port got SMASHED in 2007.

Rodan went to port in 2007 so he did play in their losing final but not in their 04 premiership.

Relieved others cleared this up before me. He does have good experience in finals in 2007, and he could be a good get if he plays his best footy. But in terms of his Grand Final experience he was on the end of the biggest GF flogging of all time!

Someone wrote on the net how depressing Rodan's career has been. Strated ta richmond moved to port and will now finish at the demons. Im surprised we got him but I have faith in neeld. He is probably the best 88th pick ever and at least he is ready to play. If he does play round 1 at least he will be fired up against his old team.

Maybe he could be that small crumber we missed when Aussie departed.

Greag Denham will have a field day on SEN tomorrow. prepare for more bagging.

Tell someone who cares Greg!

Rodan is a better player than many believe and despite this coming across as looking desperate he is a premiership player and he can still run. Considering we got him for nothing I think its a good call.

i couldnt care less what Denham has to say about the dees - his opinions on us are always just bile and emotive vitriol rather than anything balanced or with perspective.

Oh yeah his going to bag us for this trade. Loves calling us the Melbourne Bears.

Don't think I can listen to him any more so over hearing his comments about us, don't understan why he hates us so much.

He is not a premiership player.

And we didn't "get him for nothing". We have used a valuable list position on a 30 year old, twice delisted, small with awful knees.

Forget "Crazy Vossy" in 09. Neeld's approach to this trade period is a bit like AFL '12 on the Playstation. We started off ok but Byrnes is finished on the park and now on some very decent coin (going by the FA compensation), Dawes is on half a mill a year, and now Rodan. Really praying we don't pick up Ray or Pederson. One has been unwanted at two clubs and is a soft receiver, the other cant crack a game in the AFL.

The proof will be in the pudding. If we start winning games the knockers will have no choice but to change their tune.

Well he is highly qualified, plenty of experience losing at Richmond and Port

You are a miserable old bugger aren't you Bluey?

Pick 88 for Christ sake.

Rodan is a good choice, we want someone to fill a gap for a year to two while our younger midfielders improve and mature, he is a short term solution to a problem. I would rather have Rodan and try winning games than play one of our rookies (to give them experience) and loose games. We need to show serious improvement next year and win games, set ourselves up for Hogan and the following years draft when we can possibly pillage GWS and GC's lists for more mature and quality players. We need to have our sights set on top eight within 2 years and grand finals in 3-4 years.

Rodan will make a great crumbing forward, he has a good kick, great pace and very elusive. He could also be thrown onto the ball every now and again. I like it a lot.

Not actually that injury prone. He has played all but a few games in each except his final season at Richmond and now Port.

His injuries have been 'notable' when they've occured, but overall he gets on the park pretty consistently.

I'm not completely sold on him, but for pick 88 we aren't going to cry. I was a little reassured to see he was third in the AFL for running bounces/game this year, behind only R & H Shaw. Those Shaw boys must have had a loooong back yard.

I think Rodan could play a useful role at minimal cost, we'll see how he goes.

Another guy with his head screwed on right too.

Neeld is basically replacing the players he thinks are poor for the culture with guys he thinks are good for the culture. It's consistent with his approach to the captaincy, where he saw that culture change wasn't going to work gradually, but instead needed to be based on big events (like changing captain and bringing in an influx of new mature players).

I don't understand why people are getting annoyed at the club for picking up older players for next to nothing. The only draft pick of any value that we have given up is 20. That pick is speculative & can only be judged in time. The rest of the older players we have picked up so far are above pick 50 or for nothing. Eg Sellar, Magner, Byrnes & now Rodan. So far the club hasn't given away anything so what's with the hysteria? Do we want the club to use low value draft picks on kids that will never get a game or players that may come in straight away & have an impact? I know which option I would choose & that is the path that the FD is currently going down.

If they give up a rumoured pick 33 for Pederson I would be disappointed. So far that is only journalist speculation. Journos have been wrong so far this trade period so don't see why it won't happen again.

You underestimate a spot on the list.

Without going into the specifics of this particular player we can at least note that Suckling was a rookie, as was Blair and Dahlhaus, and then there are PSD players such as Rockliff. Every spot on the list is valuable. We'll all rejoice if the club has got it right.

Make some more delistings & trades. One spot on the list for Rodan isn't a massive deal when you consider how many other spots are being taken up by spuds.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
