Another poster on another site was very critical of Neeld in obtaining Rodan. Words such as Neeld is putting dad's army together "to save himself".

I'm taking note of all the posters who wanted to win games in 2012, the one's who were fed up, had enough, those that vote a minimum of 12 winning games next year, yet are now dismissing the trade moves as a move to "save himself" by obtaining experience.

You can't have it both ways. Well you can, but it makes you look like a dick.

I was initially critical of them getting Byrnes, but given the lack of capacity in being able to attract players through trade week (ie. a younger alternative), the one's they have got to fulfil specified roles including Byrnes, is a decent move in the interim and supports their objectives in setting standards.

These things aren't mutually exclusive, you can say you want to win games next year and still disagree with some of the recruiting. I'm happy to see Byrnes in the side because he was unable to get a game in a vey powerful club and was kept out by youth, not delisted by the worst side in the comp. I'm happy to see Dawes in the side because he's a quality player and we don't have anyone that could play that position any better. I'm happy to see Ray in the side because I think he will add to the side in terms of ability and experience.

Even Pederson has something that some of our players lack and is only being kept out of the side because of an abundance of similar players before him.

Rodan has a history of injury and is a big gamble, he probably won't be there after his contract expires in 2 years and in my opinion will keep a kid out of the side who may be less experienced but much more capable of contributing to the side in the long term. I don't want to see more recycled players in the side than our own home grown youngsters.

There should be a rule on Demonland where one cannot post about David Rodan without using a dancing reference.

Back on topic though, Rodan should be able to help deliver the ball to our tall Timber, Lake will have a hard time matching up on them.

Funny actually i loved Pickett and enjoyed watching Duchy play. But i also loved Templeton, Cottogio and Carmen

I watched all those players as well and I'd have to say that they were all finished by the time they got to Melbourne. But I did enjoy watching them play, when they actually could play with their former sides.

I feel like I'm going through the Lucas Cook debate all over again, that turned out well for us.

Only as long as it takes for that kid to realise what level he has to get to in order to displace him. That's what it's all about.

People say that it was only pick 88 we gave up, but its not just that. Its a spot on our list. What if now we do not have space to retain the likes of Evans, Nicho, Jetta ect. I rate all 3 of them higher than Rodan.

Can't hurt to see how he goes for almost nothing. Did he play in Port's premiership? I'm sure he wont be a walk up start, but the competition for spots will be good, and if he can prove that he deserves to be in the side, then great.

Would've thought he'd have been at Richmond at the time.

Low Risk/Low-Medium Reward. Glad he's added a hard body, was decent at Port a couple of years ago but injuries are a big concern.

I agree with this. Would rather the FD back one of our kids rather than a bloke who we are unlikely, given age and injury history, get more than 15 games out of.

I can only assume that Rodan is an exceptional trainer and leader who will be an enthusiastic participant in the culture change at the club

As he has been let go at 2 clubs, the last being more of a cot case that us, you kind of doubt it
