WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRIS DAWES

Recommended Posts

"Hardball" is code for let's dick each other around for two weeks, waste everyone's time and finally arrive at the deal 5 minutes before the deadline and probably miss it because we cut it so fine that we missed the cutoff for the paperwork. It's the Essendon approach and it's why everyone avoids dealing with them.

I'm strongly against this approach. Make a sensible offer first up and just get it done ASAP. If Collingwood want to [censored] about the edges with it and make silly demands like Ricky bloody Petterd then fine, whatever. Humour them in the interests of getting it done quickly so we can focus on our next move.

I suspect not that much will happen until the compensation picks are announced in the next week.

I dont get

People dont rate the Pet

He can take a screamer

Or a goal go get...

I dont know why he's on the outer so much.He just needs to be consistant.

TT I am not sure why he would be on the inner.

The best game he ever played for the MFC was the one against the Pies when he dropped the ball in the goal square.

We subsequently lost the game by a point.

I have not seen a game up to that level since, that was I think the third game of 2010.

A long time ago.

All over for mine

i think sums it up from what i have heard , they need to free $$$

He could only suppose that salary cap issues were the reason why Collingwood were happy to trade him.

A waiting game. They need salary cap space so they can continue shopping. But we don't want to provide them with that space, so they can outbid Us, for some prospective player.

OD no one has played to their potential during Our List Management duration. And can you blame them?

RP is better than what we've seen, but like many has been Effected by the 'List Management' saga.

Ricky will be better, when all this stuff is behind him, just as long as he can withstand the modern training regimes.

If he put in a second effort after fumbling that mark there may have been a slim chance for a different result. Choosing to squat on and thumping the turf in frustration sums up his career.

Dawes is a contracted player, they want (need) him to move he wants to come to us not the dogs. If he doesn't get what he wants he can stay with the pies because he has a contract then they are up s...creek with their salary cap. Go figure, who has the best bargaining chip on the table?

got to love it when someone sees a clarity missed before.

I like this thinking

I would suggest we are waiting for the compo so:

20 and 27 to Collingwood for Dawes and 38, 38 for Pederson.

i wouldn't mind this at all.

I'd be OK if the nett is:

Out: 20, Moloney, Rivers, Martin

In: Dawes, Byrnes, Pedersen, Ray

altho many here will squark because we've lost so may champeeeens

Absolutely true. I like the Dees stance.

Let 'em sit in the steam room of salary cap pressure and paralyse their pursuit of anyone else. We can get other deals done in the mean time without any meddling from the pies.

I suspect hey are currently Over, the Salary Cap, & have to clear someone.

Why? Tarrant is gone (guessing $250k), as is Wellingham ($300k). They have $550k up the sleeve, some no doubt gone to Cloke. Dawes is only on about $280k, so unless they are trying to clear space for a Tippet, say, (then they will have to move a lot more than Dawes), I can't see how they have sal cap pressure.

He had a great role model in Robbo to look up to.

Its funny, during the home and away season we had articles written about our club on a almost daily basis, and the trend has continued throughout trade week(s). Now we have a quiet day or two and everyone is panicing!

I say sit back and enjoy the peace and quiet! I'd love us to sign Dawes and Ray/Broughton, even Rodan, but theres still plenty of time left to do all/none of them

I forgot about Tarrant, so you could well be right.

Well they do seem to be OK about Dawes, by not claiming him as a required player.

That brings other questions about whats going on. So maybe Buckley just doesn't want him?

I agree it's not so much salary cap pressure than having someone they no longer want taking up a spot on the list. If we don't take him they can just leave him there and put up with him.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well …

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
