WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRIS DAWES

Recommended Posts

Guest José Mourinho

I would be very surprised if Couch remains on the list beyond 2013.

He was an emergency backup in 2012, and we're about to inject a couple of top shelf young mids who'll be ready to play from day 1.

Pick 20 is too much for Dawes. Would prefer if we got Pedersen with our Moloney compo pick.

Because Moloney is a restricted free angent we wont get anything good and collingwood are difficult to satisfy - bane of my life :(

I think he is worth pick 20.

Which of his 3 games did you like least?

Exactly...was given very few opportunities at AFL level, despite the fact he was ripping it up in he VFL; and at the top level it is best to get a few games to build momentum and confidence...very hard to come in cold and be a star performer.

Was runner up in he overall VFL awards and took out the Casey award...not too shabby at all.

May have been brought in as a stop gap measure, but has ended up probably having a better year than Magner who tailed off pretty badly after a great start to the year.

Not to mention, the Moloney compo pick is cancelled out by the acquisition of Byrnes...will only have a compo pick if the Cats take Rivers, I would think.

I'm with you hardtack but I don't think you could say he had a better year than Mags who played 17(?) games and whose tailing off can be somewhat attributed to him being moved out of the guts, where he was doing his best work.

He's no star, but I think young Couch deserves a little more than 3 games to adjust to the pace of AFL. He still managed to lay more tackles per game than a certain C Sylvia.

For all those saying pick 20 is "overs", they may be technically correct, but the problem is we don't have a pick 26 or 27 (which is what the market may dictate his value to be). It is rare that a player is traded for exact value, especially when he nominates a club.

This is right on Dawes value imo, with maybe a 3rd rounder or something coming back more likely 4th

Market value is determined by what other clubs are willing to pay, not some absolute value that a player is worth. We would know where our stopping point is, but the fact is the Bullies are willing to use pick 21 and a late one; this is Dawes' current 'market' value and we have to match it if we want him.

I personally think that Dawes is worth the pick 20 and that it is a fair deal. Lets not forget two years ago his market value was our pick 12 and that was our highest pick! This year we have 3 top 5 draft picks coming into our club over the next 2 years, pick 20 is far more expendable, and others are bidding similar amounts.

We would have traded pick 4 for Wellingham and Dawes (reportedly). What's to stop Collingwood demanding pick 4 for Dawes and pick 17 (which they got for Wellingham)?

The fact we won't give it to them, if the Doggies bid pick 5 or 6 they will get him as we won't give away 4 for Dawes alone. We know where our tipping point is, but the fact is if the Doggies think he is worth 6, that is his market value and no amount of thinking he is worth a 3rd rounder will change it.

The acquisition of Dawes has to to be looked at in context and not isolation.

If all we were to take out of this draft was say someone at 4 and 20 then you would look at that but we aren't and haven't.

We HAVE Viney, we HAVE Hogan, we will get another great kid at 4 ( wines likely ) we have picked up experience in Byrnes, we are likely to bolster our utility fwd/bk stocks in Pedersen and still likely to add to the mid experience with Ray.

What we need is some serious help up the sharp end in he form of a ready to go kpp who'll play a 2ndup role and dissect the pack off of Clark. They're simply aren't that many to select from.

Pick 20 is what it is....the price. Markets determine prices invariably and it will this time also.

It's hardly the end of the world!!!

Pick 20 is fine for Dawes. Players of his physical proportions and premiership credentials don't come cheap. The price is right if you ask me. Structurally he will be a good fit for the club and take pressure off Clark.

The Dogs are not going to offer 5 or 6 for Dawes. That would be utter madness and they need to get quality kids in the door just as much as we do. Collingwood aren't about to trade him to a place that he doesn't want to go to either.

Must say I am a bit bewildered that Pies are not seeking Martin in the trade. They are reportedly about to delist Wood and Jolly has at best one year left with all his injuries. The early talk was that they wanted Martin and now he is not even being mentioned in the deal. I would offer him and a swap of later picks to see if we could get the deal done. Even Martin and Petterd would be worth a try as Petterd played some great games against the Pies and I would have thought they would have some interest in him.

Isn't it the Dees thare are suggesting it's just a pick with no players and swaps involved?

Just asking :)

I am not suggestin Martin and 20, but rather a straight swap of players with maybe Petterd thrown in or a late swap of picks.

I'm happy with keeping 20 I just sense the pies want to go to the well a few times.

Martin would be logical you'd think.

Dawes is surely going to come to melb, he obviously doesn't want to stay at collingwood and doesn't want to go anywhere else other than melb so the deal should be inevitable. Pick 20 and a player for dawes and a pick around 40-50 would be a good deal imo. unfortunately i don't think we would get the pick in return so it should just be a straight swap of pick 20 for Dawes. He should be an ideal pick up for us :)

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
