Not really.

Every club wants two power forwards. Yes, last year we had none, but we're just as desperate for another this year. The issue is more his form.

Yes really. Last season we were looking for a #1 forward. And got him. Dawes really isn't that #1 He makes a handy #2.

It's a different role

Nah, Dawes has never been a number one forward. You don't build a forward-line around a player like Dawes. He'd never be more than a 2ic in any forward-line. But he can be a decent second tall.

I think you've hastily misread bb's post.

I read on the collingwood forum about Dawes, all the collingwood supporters rate Dawes pretty highly and think if he didn't play so much in the ruck he would have had a much better season.

There all very upset that he might be leaving.

Well I just heard on the news that the bulldogs have offered collingwood a second round pick for him so if we want him where going to have to do a little better then that.

There is talk we could be using our pick13 for him...

I really hope this isnt the case, imo thats massive overs.

I guess the pic becomes clearer tommoro when we find out about viney

Weren't the pups after Pedersen also. Whispers have it we are almost there.

Begs the q as to how many we are after?

I think a swap of players & maybe a later pick either way.

IMO Martin & Dawes are about equal value. both can improve on this year, but really neither are Rnd 1 material.

As many as possible I think.

I don't think there will end up to be all that many.

Pederson would be interesting,,, but I'll take any, keeping our picks.

In the end we could just go after a WAFL or SANFL or VFL type.

I agree with this but I'm shore collingwood will be playing hard ball cause they know how deperit we are for a play like Dawes.

Seems that Collingwood's high trade expectations might put paid to us getting Dawes and we appear to have turned our attention to Pedersen.

Stef Martin to Saints as part of a deal for Ray?

If so, hope Stevens is part of the deal, as they may be trading Cripps to WC.

I'd love to know where the goalposts are now regarding Dawes. Weve all but snagged Hogan and whilst not available til 14 it must convey to the filth our destiny isn't particularly attached to Dawes. Doesn't mean for a moment we couldn't or shouldn't grab him as he'd make an ideal foil for Clark as of the very next game. Just we don't NEED him, just like him. The Collingwood currency just got devalued.

I'm sure 4 will be kept alive and as such any idea of a Dawes/wellingham deal is really nonsense. Ray I think can fulfill that role which just leaves Dawes.... And not too many suitors and a Collingwood desperate for some more trade/picks ability , well more than it has.

I'm not au fait with what we might have left to actually trade for Dawes after the Hogan deal. I don't have many sources for whispers

Isn't this fun lol

20 for Dawes is a good thing if Collingwood can remove their heads from their arses long enough to smell the roses. We will not pay overs for him. 20 is fair and adequate compensation.

It gives them 2 first round picks, maybe 3 if they can get one off the Eagles for the Fringe.

We are lean at the draft table if we trade it though. Only 1 live pick (4) in the first to rounds (assuming FA compo pick will be 3rd round or later). No way that pick 4 gets traded now.

Pick 20 for Dawes?

Don't do this Dees - too high a price for a mediocre footballer.

We need midfielders and I want us to use picks 4 and 20 on midfielders.

We've done very well so far, let's not spoil it by trading away a valuable pick.

I think we have enough talls on our list, but if they want some experience then I'd prefer a cheaper option.

we require a big forward yes but not any guy with a big body. If all we are looking for is a gorilla lets get Billy Brownless to sit on our CHF. I'm saying lets get the best big body we can find.

You realise Billy's hip is totally stuffed don't you?

I think with the addition of Viney and hopefully another gun mid with pick 4, it's less critical to pick another mid with pick 20 now.

I am confident Harrington won't use 20 on Dawes. That is a frst round pick in this draft and Dawes is not worth a first rounder. I believe they are still confident Rivers and Moloney will go. Compensation for Byrnes and Moloney will cancel each other out. Rivers comp should be late second round or early third round. That should be enough for Dawes.

I agree 100%. Keep picks 4 and 20 in our pocket for now.

I still hope we can use pick 20 on Dawes or "Doors" as I'm sure Bluey will call him in an attempt at humour.

Bluey's re-emigrated to the 'Ology Old Boys Home Clint

Couldn't disagree more. We need bucketloads of them.

If we use pick 20 for Dawes, i'll be a little disapointed but i'll bite my tounge until mid 2013. I thought pick 12 for Clark was overs but turned out to be a master stroke. Perhaps we have the same scenario here.

I hope we dont use pick 20 + a pig pay day to lure Dawes though....

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
