Everytime I hear people (or read posts) saying Dunn is tough and competitive I always picture them saying in that tone that some girls use when they have an upward inflection? Like they are asking a question? Even though it's a statement? Because they have no confidence in what they are saying?

Jumper punching is not touhgness. Sledging is not toughness.

You want to see toughness - watch what Jack Viney will do to get the pill.

Then MFC supporters will know what toughness is.

Dunn can be very frustrating at times.

What he lacks in ability he makes up in aggression and willingness to compete at all times (i.e. complete opposite to Morton)

He is worth keeping while our younger players develop.

How so many believe Dumm is tough beggars belief. Have seen him squib many times. Have also seen him niggle and throw elbows behind, not to mention his Bollywood acting. Disgraceful there.

We haven't seen skill in a while, but we don't go harping on about how amazingly skilled our players are.

I guess the only reason why people think Dunn is 'tough' is because they must be looking for something to hang their hat on about him. Or they don't actually watch him play, and then think he's better than he actually is. It's unfathomable, really.

I agree he is not tough but then to say he isn't aggressive after stating he niggles and throws elbows seems contradictory. I would love to see our defenders get some swagger about them, being a nasty, annoying, stingy defence is an attainable goal and would give our team some form of identity.

In all seriousness but, why would be keep him? Toughness?? Hahahah please, can't remember one big contested mark he has ever taken or ran back with the flight into a contest or a time when he has seriously impacted a game.

Not even sure what position he is meant to play or what his role should be or is. I didn't mind when he first came on the scene as a half forward, showed a bit but never improved.

Could be another added to that list of players who probably were not developed properly.

I remember one of his early, if not his first game and he pulled out of a ground level contest and I thought then that we had a problem.

I'd rather see him put his head over and win the ball than bump or tackle someone else that had, we've had too many players like that over the last few years.

You're exactly right Rod. Dunn has probably squibbed the most marking contests I've seen at my time watching Melbourne. A few years ago I was watching a practice match against the Saints at Linton St and his ducking of the head on the wing when there was actually no-one around him was one of the funniest. Needless to say he didn't mark it. It's one of just many examples. But if you want a jumper punch he's one of the best. There's courage on a footy field and there's bravado. We know which one Lynden does well.

That said, he's definitely improved over the years. But it's hard to fully eradicate when it's in your DNA. And I'm certain he's been more embarrassed than we've been offended.

Melb have had some tough players but Dunn will never be one of those. Look to Neitz, Whelan, Ingerson, Jmac, Jones, Viney and Seecamp. Dunn is a disgrace with all his shenanigans!

Whilst I do agree with your conclusion, namesake, I wouldn't hang too much on the Rawlings publicised review. Have you ever seen much bad said about anyone in those reviews? An old ploy in industry is to give a glowing reference on someone who you really, really want to get out of your organisation. Not saying it is the case here, but they aren't going to bag someone for whom they may get an offer.

Come on Nash, we've seen enough in recent years to know losing 3 senior players and gaining 2 for a group already immature is not great.

I love who we've got so far, but won't be calling it an "influx" unless we at least match the number of games experience we've lost.

I remember that time! A simpler existence. Thankfully those players were not involved in any leadership capacity during 186, and their experience is unsullied by the terrible imasculation of a footy club...

Not really. We have McDonald, Frawley and Garland (possibly Sellar/Pederson too) to take big forwards. Dunn is also crap at defending.

You guys are totally missing my point... I'm wrapped with the players we've picked up so far and think their particular experience will be really valuable to us, but with what we've lost and gained I think the term "influx" is a bit ridiculous.
