A logical idea people won't like

I've heard dumber ideas-but I just cant think of when.

Oh yes I can- it was when me and my mate wanted to de-rail a train as a kid when we were bored.

This isn't all Neelds fault but he doesn't inspire any confidence. Deplorable in the media and that uninspiring cliche sprinkled pre game talk doesn't feel me with confidence. End of the day it comes down to who is a better senior coach though and you'd have to be one hell of a believer to choose Neeld over Ratten

I actually agree with the context of the article, but sorry the above bit of yours I quoted is just crap, since when has Neeld been deplorable in the media? and who says he doesn't inspire confidence? that sentence is just crap sorry. If you agree with the article that Carlton is taking the easy option and again dumping a coach prematurely, dropping Neeld for Ratten would be less of the easy option, but one of the more stupid things I have heard recently.

Bailey was terrible in the media, I actually like the way Neeld handles the media. Lets rate Neeld in another 4 years before comparing him to Ratten. (and no that doesn't mean I am advocating having him for a longer contract than he has,... but you can't compare the two until then either.)

Let's not mock mention the word dumb in relation to this OP. When interactive fiction games were in vogue for those of us who were using those newfangled "personal computers," the game based on Douglas Adams's Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy defined "intelligence" as the ability to believe two contradictory things at the same.

Ratten in Neeld out.

Robert Walls wrote a great article in the Age http://www.theage.co...0829-2514j.html I urge people to read it and before some idiot comes in and claims Robert Walls knows nothing just look at his CV. Bloke seriously knows his football. The article got me thinking and I have rated Ratten as a coach and the way he handled himself this year has been fantastic. He actually possesses leadership and is made of the right stuff. Has a win loss record of 53% and the only reason he is being booted is purely Carlton arrogance. Mick Malthouse is a great coach who unfortunately wouldn't even consider Melbourne but wants to coach Carlton, bad luck Ratten. This year has been a disaster of enormous magnitude. If prior to the season I'd said we'd beaten one non expansion side you'd all have had a chuckle. We haven't even gotten close to other sides,.

NO! Unbelievable. Knee-jerk nonsense. For the first time in a long while we have a plan for success - let's stick with it. There's no sense in changing horses midstream.

and you've been following a train wreck ever since.......irony

In those days Northey was driving the train and we were going express to the G in Sept.

Garry Lyon was young ,Andy Lovell was 17 and the back carriages had Danny Hughes ,Yeats ,Johnson , Lovett and Grinter.

Only the Hawks could stop us.

Would history be different if Strawbs knocked out Bucky ,Dermy or Dippa?

Awesome being down there with 2000 Demons just to watch training.

The sausages were sizzling away and Robbie was allowed to train in trackies.

Northey made them all train on the wing so we could watch them closely.

Swooper really got the most out of them.

It is written in frayed parchment;

"Thy Demonic curse from the red head can only be lifted by a red head".

Malthouse has declared that he will coach again. He could start at Melbourne in the preseason. Neeld is trying unsuccessfully to follow Malthouse's coaching style and game plan. He just doesn't have the intelligence or ability to do it. We should replace him with the real deal. Get Mick now!

you're right, it's an idea people won't like because it defies logic.

Robert Walls has no credibility. Also, Collingwood didn't lose the GF because of his coaching, their players were shot to pieces from the previous game against Hawthorn, and were carrying too many players who were underdone or injured. They were only capable of playing three quarters. I love it how he says 1 flag in 17 years, but neglects to mention that he coached flags in 92 & 94. He took an over-achieving side to two GF's in 2002 & 2003 (almost nabbing the flag in 02' against possibly the greatest side of the AFL era. Maybe he's envious of Malthouse because he was a rubbish coach himself..

I'm sorry but this idea is just ridiculous.

So the guy who couldn't coach a win against Gold Coast Suns with the likes of Judd, Murphy, Gibbs, Kreuzer, Simpson, Carazzo, Betts, Waite, Scotland and Walker at his disposal should be our coach next season.

Brilliant.

Robert Walls knows very little of great use. I've seen his CV. He was big in the 80s, I hear? Then he spent ten years coaching teams that failed, and for the last ten years he's done nothing but state the obvious or engage in trivial, unaccountable sniping and list-making like a twelve year old.

I think Carlton might be making a mistake in sacking Ratten, after all, the Blues have managed to pummel a few top sides this year. But there is a clear problem with players not being accountable and lacking work ethic on field. Happy to be 'special' rather than 'professional', they're the passengers that Ratten mentioned earlier in the week. But at the same time, it is his responsibility to bring them into line.

On that record, I would suggest that Ratten would be a terrible match for our list, another one which suffers from high apparent talent but big gaps in work ethic and accountability.

Ratten's results are about comparable with Daniher's from 2001-2007, except Ratten had a much stronger list and much better facilities and support.

Final thought, Sylvia's Dukes - you say you want Melbourne to be professional, but advocate sacking a new coach with two years left on his contract for an opportunistic grab at a coach who had five years with a highly talented young list and managed to win one final in that time.

Stating Ratten is a better coach then Neeld somehow makes me ALP's chief strategist? Didn't know they had one to be honest. Appears to be rudderless ship (no pun intended) much like Melbourne

No, not at all........it makes you a peanut.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
