Right. Anytime someone posts a "mids mids mids" comment it will automatically receive one of these ...

We. Can. Get. Midfielders. And. Cloke. There. Is. Nothing. Stopping. Us. From. Trying. To. Achieve. Both.

I dont know if this has been said before but I reckon we do trade for mids & use Rivers, Bate & Dunn to get the best mids out of a teams like Collingwood Sydney Geelong or Hawthorn. Just do it.

Yep and how do they get it?? Mids. We could have Jesus H Christ there himself at FF and we would still struggle with our I50s which are amongst the lowest in the league. As well our delivery is bottom of the class.

He's too small for FF. Better as an inside mid.

Cloke is No#1 for putting the ball inside 50m at Collingwood.

Ha. Ha. No. They are FA's, and hold absolutely no value on the trade table. Try again.

By having 2 power forwards 1 will be able to leave the 50m arc and get the ball themselves. Thats the wonder of it all.

who needs mids when you got forwards who go and collect it themselves :)

I'm not sure if I heard correctly but I am sure that on Wednesday night, Gerard Healy said on 3AW that Melbourne had offered Cloke a 7 year deal. Please tell me I dreamt that.....

All I can say: the thought of Travis Cloke on a hard lead outside 50. Mark. Swing around on his left foot with a quick, long, penetrating kick into a one on one contest to Mitch Clark makes me salivate.

Get all his good attributes and don't need him shooting for goal. :) Hope it happens....

You are mistaken. He has been offered a 17 year contract. That way he is out of other club's reach when he becomes eligible for free agency for a second time.

You would have to ask if Cloke is actually worth the money mentioned he certainly hasn't had a stellar year. In Tonight's game against North he has racked up 10 possessions for 3 points at 3 quarter time.

Dawes has 6 possessions for nil score at the same time.

Not exactly the twin towers they were supposed to be.

Imagine if we got his mate?! The big doofus beside him?

Still wouldn't mind Cloke though...

Not saying that I want Dawes, but good lord, he'd be useful in our current undersized forward line. At least for the 2nd half of the year temporarily anyway. Then I'd like to hand him back. At no cost, of course.

Can someone arrange this please?

With our list and the front loading of contracts, I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't have 2-3+ mill left in our salary cap next year to front load a major contract or 2 or 3 - be it Cloke, be it Goddard, be it Boak.... Whoever is available we have so much cap room to fit them in for major deals without upsetting future contracts. I don't understand why people here are scared to offer big payloads to get us to our club that mya, just may help lift us up off the canvass. I don't care who we upset at other clubs, nor which of 'senior' players get a shake up because we will pay an outsider huge coin, our football club needs the best players we can get our hands on now, not what might be when our "window" opens - our "window" will open much sooner if we have better footballers playing, seems simple to me

I think its much liklier that he will be signing for carlton

they can have him, he's not worth the money he's asking

Cloke last night failed because of poor service. The Pies midfield were inefective and their kicking to him was poor for a change. Put him in our side with our current setup and skill level he would be completely useless. The thought of a 7 year contract, Arrgh!

The money is not an issue - Green gone frees up $400-500K/year as will Moloney or Sylvia if either of them go. Davey has one year left and is on $500-600K/year. We have money to burn for the next couple of years might as well spend it rather than pay 92.5% of the cap or give it to players to beef up their contracts when they dont deserve it.

Cloke playing 40-80metres from goal leading up to the wings with Clark playing 0-40 out and being dangerous around the goals will be great for our structure.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players.  Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin Boeing 737 flight to Perth for this upcoming team-bonding, fun-filled, weekend getaway.   This cross-continent Round 4 clash at Fremantle Oval starting at 2:05pm AEST promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies slight favourite.     If we lose, finals will be remoter than Rottnest Island and the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday, an omen.

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
