Trade Sylvia - just do it

Glad its sinking in.

Plenty of players have performed well in the Bluey without playing full seasons. Nowhere did I say he was expected to win it. His performances are well below par for a so called 'elite' player. It makes me ill the way people on this site refer to him as elite. He is so far from it its a joke.

I think you are the one with rocks. He is lazy, selfish and has a shocking work ethic. The world is full of talented people with the same probelm. Its why some people become stars and others never get there. Not only will Sylvia never get there with that attitude but it has and will continue to tarnish the culture of the club we want to create. We will be better off without him

I haven't once referred to him as elite. Melbourne don't have one player near elite. Sylvia certainly has class though. He's the only player at the club who I could see having 25 and kicking 5. Dane Swan often looks very laxidasical, and is regardless seen out on the town after on the games, even on the sauce.

Does it make him bad for Collingwood's culture- Yes it does. He's been suspended for that very reason.

Get in your head that games like the AFL and NFL in the states have egos. It's the club's responsibility to tune him up and get him in line. If anything, I'm disappointed that Melbourne haven't worked harder in rectifying his misdemeanours. That said, it'll be this off-season when we really see any changes.

Still another year to run on his contract and only early days in the Neeld era.

Unless some serious overs get put on the trade table, it's a no for me.

Agree. He is contracted, is seen as an class player, who can kick goals, go in hard and versatile as a mid/fwd. He is better than 30 other blokes on our list. Unless its a top 15 pick in exchange for Sylvia, then DON"T WASTE OUR TIME. Move on.

The bit I dont agree with is in caps and could be said of Moloney

The coach /es are not wasting time with any player

That is their job. That is their time.

I am certainly unaware of the reality of sylvias ability (he was highly rated and has be seen to play briefly at that level)

Or the severity of his injury ( I have had debilitating back pain briefly and worked with people on rehabilitation programs who were restricted in being able to perform at their peak only briefly)

or his off field antics (wether they help or hinder we have mainly seen the latter)

or his leadership (he does seem to set an example on the feild and I have seen other players gather and support him)

or even his ability to perform the role the coach wants (he may have been placed on the HFF to assess all oif the above)

BUT

I do hope that the coaches are giving their time to get the best out of Sylvia and all Melb players or giving them the time to understand that their (the players) time is up I also hope that this was the scenario with Brad who made the difficult decision himself as he has expressed it.

The coach/es seem to have made some progress example most noticeably with Watts and there is certainly much more to be done I hope they use their time effectively

Much of the comment on Dland even the vociferuosly negative can be used to inspire improvement lets hope that also continues so we definitely dont wate our time!

With the new young guns coming into the side soon enough, we need every older player leading by example, I don't know how Colin presents himself around the club or at training but to see Colin do this on match day is rare. If he's unable to go about every aspect of his employment with the highest integrity, I'd be interested to see what his worth to another team might be.

His work rate and lack of effort should not be tolerated any longer.

Soldee

What "should not be tolerated" are these anti Sylvia threads. He along with Clark and Jones are our best players and all three match winners. To get back to the stage he has this year after some absolute shocking injuries in phenomenal! Get off his case!

Same goes for new boy Gysberts.

Quote about Gysberts....:“He had a syndesmosis injury in the ankle, which kept him out for a long time early [in the season] and then he came back from a broken jaw, so he’s just starting to string together some games.

Posts to trade these types of guys are crazy and then to listen to the same people blindly backing the Coach . IMO Hypocritical.

Gysberts specifically has not had enough of a chance to string multiple bad games together to warrant delisting...

Agree that sylvia has a lot to atone for but would like to see what a hard taskmaster could get out if him...one of baileys massive crimes was not instilling the school children he coached with any work ethic or dismcipline

Jeez he's great... It's round 22 and this was a nothing game so typically Sylvia has a blinder. Hoping this raises his value at the trade table.

Passenger indeed!

Mate how long have you been watching Sylvia play? How can you still support him after seven years of constant let down intermingled with a terrible attitude on field. Judging by a few of your posts you don't seem to follow the footy all that closely.

He is on a hiding to nothing with most nuffies on here. He plays [censored] he gets slagged off, he plays well they will still slag him off and say the opposition was rubbish or the game was meaningless. Round 1 aside, this game was as meaningful as any other.

How?

sorry rpfc...never got around to responding.

The Hypocritical comment.

If we are judging purely on performance then calling for mass player culls while expressing such admiration for a non proven and so far unsuccessful coach does seem a little "hypocritical". For example Jack Trengove? He's selected by the Coach to be the Face of the Melbourne FC and lead MFC forward. Without pointing the stick I have read threads by Demonlanders expressing full support of MN while even today having absolutely no confidence and to be blunt openly bagging out on our Captain.

This is fair enough but to then be critical of others offering not such a complimentary report card on Neeld is hypocritical.

I'd be holding onto both Davey and Sylvia, they both having something we lack - CLASS.

We have enough young talent coming through - and even more in the upcoming draft,

blokes like Sylvia are needed more than ever next year.

A long time. Sylvia IMO is Melbourne's most talented player. Agreed he's a bad boy. He wasn't a passenger today and hasn't been for the past 2 months. Played good consistent footy in a very poor side.

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form
