Gain fitness in the AFL rather than at a lower level where the intensity is much lower and the standard is poorer. Getting 30 disposals in the VFL isn't of the same value as the WAFL/SANFL imo so the only way to better himself is a run in the 1's!

His preparation might not be up to scratch? There are standards and expectations now...

I like Gys and I hope he lifts.

I am getting seriously annoyed at seeing Watts out, how is it a player can have test against him name for so long and not play. Is something else going on here? Does he keep aggravating it at training? Would it be worth us putting him on ice for the last rounds?

T-t-t-a-a....list management.

The guy has his first game back, is a true midfielder rather than a stopper such as Mckenzie so we are minus one ball winning mid, and stops a midfield rotation and puts pressure back on Moloney.

He has a footy IQ, something I don't see from Mckenzie, and he has great distribution from the packs. Give the guy a proper run for God's sake.

Yes Mckenzie is good at what he does but God, we need mids and he is one!!!!

I think Workrate is more important, prior to getting games. He's got to impress all, including his fellow peers.

We've all heard his fitness issues aren't up to it, Yet.

Watts not to understand ??

Not happy with gys being dropped and pretty much for Jetta who still to this day has shown less in all his games compared to Gysberts.

I still do not know what people see in Jetta. I've seen nothing that has convinced me that he should be getting a AFL game.

The team list on the football oval graphic (if that makes sense) that is emailed out has Jamar named and not Spencer.

I think he's one of our best tacklers and is much more useful to the side than Gys, a la McKenzie.

Shocking week for players failing their tests - four of them flopped miserably:

• Stef Martin (foot)

• Daniel Nicholson (jaw)

• Ricky Petterd (hamstring) and

• Jack Watts (ankle)

Posted

Latest news: Frawley out (quad); Bate in.

Preseumably Rivers now goes to the backline and Bate plays forward

Oh well, guess we have an excuse reason for not winning now

The lack of consistency and the obvious playing of favourites from our selectors is just mind boggling.

What has Strauss done (ever) that is better than what Gysberts can contribute, even below full fitness? Why do we try duds like Bennell in 15 different positions looking for one he can cope with, when Petterd gets left in a forward pocket each week and then dropped the week after?

Why are Z-graders such as Dunn and Jetta rushed backed in after suspension, whilst those that do the right thing wallow at Casey?

Why can't the club be honest with its injury list, instead of just releasing tripe each week? Don't tell us Jack Watts is a chance to play against Richmond when he still isn't right a month later.

Oh, and if you are going to bother elevating rookies, maybe you should play actually them when you do so.

Does anyone think Watts might be doing a pre-season very early?

I do - wonder how he feels about it.

I reckon they're probably giving him 6 weeks off his ankle, and making him lift weights and eat lots of chicken. He'll be abit more built, and his ankle will be right in October and he'll be ready to run...

Makes sense, I suppose.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
