Gary Rohan? You can't see what the fuss is about??

Well, right there says all I need to know about your ability to judge talent.

I guess you're right, if he keeps up his 10 disposal per game average he will be a super star.

I certainly picked Tommy Mc to be a good one for us in October last year.

Cook was struggling in he Casey reserves at the end of the year an Fitzy has played one game. Mcdonald will be a player, he has got some talent and more importantly he has drive, he wants to succeed. Of the three I reckon he will be the best.

how have we got to the point where we STILL don't realise it is too early to make that judgment on a kid, especially a tall?

It's called a "skill" and the club pays people to have it.

Really concerned to read that Cook was playing Casey Reserves on the weekend. I'm all for not debuting him until he's ready, but the fact that he still can't crack it at VFL level after 2 years (being a first round draft pick) is worrying. Has anyone seen him play much this year? I've only seen the one VFL match and barely noticed him.

From what I've seen of Cook - what he does at VFL is pretty good but he doesn't do enough of it. He has 10 possession, 5 mark, 1-2 goal games where he needs to have 20 possession, 10marks, 4 goal games. I think he's worth another year to see what he can do this preseason as he's barely got started on developing his body, but I really want to see him next March having put on some weight and got a lot more physical.

I think Jack Fitzpatrick has improved out of sight this year.......He is only 20 years old and is a big unit......He has good pace for a big man and is good when the ball is low at his feet.....I think he will improve a lot more when he has completed another pre season...

I would delist Lucas Cook at year end and see if a spell on the rookie list makes him wake up. If another club is deluded enough to grab him before we have a suitable pick, good luck to them.

I hope Jack Fitzpatrick plays this week against Freo and then throughout the pre season comp. I think he has plenty to offer as a third tall forward / back up ruckman, and hope he gets the chance to show it. He will also benefit from playing a full finals campaign for Casey so, if the club has any sense at all, they will make him available for the next month.

No, he's hardly been discussed.

I am not posting as regular because I am getting rather bored with the negativity and the constant hijacking of threads by a minority

But back on topic

I had the opportunity on Sunday to ask Josh Mahoney a direct question to which he gave me a direct answer, which I am sure he won't mind me quoting re Lucas Cook and Jack Fitzpatrick

I will have to paraphrase a bit because memory not the same as it used to be

I asked "with the rumour we are chasing Travis Cloke, does that mean we don't think Cook and Fitzpatrick will make it"

He answered "don't believe everything you read about Cloke, but saying that young players need time to develop, especially key position, at least two or three years, and the Club can't afford to stay at the bottom for that time, so there is a need to try and recruit ready to go players, whilst the younger ones develop"

Gee how long has it taken the football brains to work that out

I hope Josh doent have anything to do with strategy Geesus !!!!!!

Got to laugh, the same people who rate Fitzy's run of form and want him selected now and Cook delisted would have been writing about how poor Fitz was last year ect not getting games......and not worthy of a spot. but it is demonland after all.

Fitz has had an extra year than Cook and is JUST starting to come good at VFL level, time is a wonderful thing for developing players.

Having watched Fitzpatrick from the start at Casey Jt I do not agree.

He has shown signs since the start, in his second year he was playing good games at Casey to be given his first AFL game at the end of that year.

Cook is not within a bulls roar of an AFL game.

He cannot even play in the Casey senior side at the end of his second year.

Unless Cook gets a massive dose of self belief and adds 10kgs he has got zero chance of playing AFL Football.

No it was a small group, but I asked him directly, if that makes sense, the group I was with all have very good 'bulldust detectors",so what we got was an answer, I have asked a couple of similar questions to Jade Rawlings, Leigh Brown and Mark Neeld on previous occasions and you get the same consistent answer.....I for one along with Nathan Jones believe we have the right people in the right jobs.....what they are doing is for the long term....it may be painful, it requires patience but it will work......developing Key Position Players being one part of it

Did you just use the word 'patience' in a Land thread??

I think Dees supporters are close to the most patient on Earth.

Why would we still be around after the last 7 years if were impatient.

I will disagree, i have seen alot more in Cook personally, BUT havnt seen any of Fitz'z back half of 2012 to comment on it personally. When i saw both play last year i personally rated Cook much i higher. I am very much in the minority/ on my own in this atm.

My point being and which i think is true, that nobody bare maybe yourself and a select few thought much of Fitz, especially after he got his AFL game last year OD. it wasnt great.

Fitz is now all the rage, i year after i think many had written the guy off, i havnt seen him play this year tbh but going from reports atm he is looking dangerous, and what i like not seeing him, is he is200cm which i think is the NEW 2012 tall forward height. players who mark the ball 3.5-4 Metres high and cannot be spoiled when doing this. IT IS NOT POSSIBLE on the lead arms out that high.

All i am saying is the arm chair supporter a term i use loosely here had it out for Fitzi nthe same way they do Cook atm. Fitz also played games in the Casey 2's along the way if i recall.

Was watching some footage of Sam Reid from the Swans play and thought "my God he is so skinny'. But he plays really well and so I immediately thought of Lucas Cook. If Reid can get games and play well why can't Cook.

Then I checked their Bio's:

Reid is 195cm at 91kgs

Cook is 196cm and 81kgs!!!!!!!

That can't be right. Reid is a rake. He cannot weight 10kgs more than Cook can he?? Not sure when the player bio's are uploaded or updated but surely there cannot be 10kg difference. If its right I can see Cook never playing for the Dees until he puts on at least 10-14kgs!!!

Anyone seen Cook live??

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
