Traded/Sacked then thrived

Since Saturday most of us are over "all things footy" at least until next Saturday:) Life as a Melbourne Supporter.

Lots of fellow members have been calling for the scalps of practically the entire list plus the Coach.

IMO as a life long Demon that the Neeld appointment was the wrong choice but would sacking him help?

Given Neeld has entirely revamped the game plan and players are still in a period of adjustment would it be a mistake to CULL our youth as most seem to be advocating in a recent RR Topic. Wouldn't that mean the new Guys coming in will need another year to grasp the Neeld Way? The Devil you know argument?

OK...We have all sat back in our comfy seats in the Northern and said...ahhh why did we let him go? Yes?

In the last 25 years which Melbourne Players have been "let go" and thrived in another environment?

What players are Melbourne likely to trade or de-list that may thrive at another club?

Only Jolly and Scott Thompson in the past.

Simmonds was not as good as White.

Can't see Brock reaching great heights despite recent efforts.

Can't worry too much about Bater and Dunn if they go.

Dunn is so useless at ground level that he is unlikely to move mountains elsewhere.

Bater is a good ,ready made player that may kick on .

I'll eat my hat if Morton becomes a star at Freo.

'Let go' is different to 'wanting' to be traded.

Jolly has 2 premierships.

The Wiz went back home and was good at Freo.

Brian Wilson had one more good game and Sean Charles was a mess.

The rest are noteworthy for their inability to kick on - Cheney can't get a game, Bruce is finished, Marric is terrible at the Tiges, Warnock continues to fumble and collapse under pressure at the Suns.

Not many have done much - the thinking might be that if Melbourne don't want ya, pack yer bags.

The club will need to address this reality/perception.

Since we started our 'rebuild' post-2006, I can only think of Bruce, Warnock, James MacDonald, Cheney and Simon Buckley, and I'm not slashing my wrists thinking they're doing much better elsewhere, or that we are drastically missing their contribution (maybe somewhat in the case of Junior).

Add Chris Johnson, Travis Johnston, Paul Johnson and Brock McLean to that list Maurie. No tears there whatsoever.

I'm still weeping terribly over Addam Maric and Brad Miller.

How did so many of our ... ahem.. players manage to find new homes?

Maric was the toast of the tigers fans during the NAB cup - now they want him to never pull a ruchmond jumper on again

Tommy Rockliff

Enlighten me....please?

Agreed White was better than Simmo though didn't Simmo make All Australian?

Brock is looking better as each week goes by.

Scott Thompson...say no more.

Bate=Feel he is well worth holding onto. Leave him at Full Forward and send Rivers back where he belongs. He can drift forward occasionally.

Good input from Biffo!

Of players that we let go, only Darren Jolly has evoked that type of response in me. That's one in the past 15 or so years.

Save for one or two of them, you'd get very long odds indeed of any of the players listed in the "who should go?' poll thread even attracting interest from another club, let alone going on to impress at one.

In short, I wouldn't get overly concerned about it.

What about Junior Mac?

Greg Wells?

Sadly Crackers and Stan Alves are outside the jurisdiction of the question.

Wrist slash would be a little drastic! James Mac may have been worth holding onto as Captain. Even now there is "talk" he will be back soon.

Brock would be very handy now? Travis was class and never really reached his full potential.

The problem with Miller was he suffered from the yips. Could never back him in from 30-45 metres.

    GOLDIE'S METTLE by Meggs

On a perfect night for football at the home of the Redlegs, Norwood Oval, it was the visiting underdogs Melbourne who led all night and hung on to prevail in a 2-point nail-biter. In the previous round St Kilda had made it a tough physical game to help restrict Adelaide from scoring and so Mick Stinear set a similar strategy for his team. To win it would require every player to do their bit on the field plus a little bit of luck.  Fifty game milestoner Sinead Goldrick epitomised

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play
