Just not sure his poor form means he wants out. He appears to have a lot of friends at the club and a good lifestyle. Obviously struggled to cope with the new coaches, the leadership group and even being passed by his mate Nathan Jones as our best midfielder. He Hasn't caught on with new game style. And looks either confused or disinterested on the field. I think he should be dropped, but I think he can fight his way back. Hell never be our best mid again, he dosen't run well enough, but we are desperate for midfielders, for experience and strength. Surely the bombers won't pay anything for him, he's certainly not in there best midfield. I suspect he'll get a better offer at MFC than anywhere else because of our weak midfield. Surely he'd have to go for a lesser contract, or am I missing something? He hasn't shown any rival clubs that he's worth any reasonable offer. Not this year anyhow.

Whats all this talk of trading him? You guys are aware that we cant trade him as he is a free agent? Any other club can just take him for free if they want....

No he's Not. He's a restricted free agent.

from: Rules of AFL FREE AGENTS list 2012

A player has served eight or more seasons of AFL football at one club, is one of the top 25 per cent highest-paid players at his club, and is now out of contract for the first time since reaching eight seasons of service. (restricted free agent)

The player is eligible to field offers from all rival AFL clubs.

If he wishes to change clubs, the player must decide on the best offer of his choice from one rival club.

His club has the right to match the presented offer.

If the club matches the offer, he may choose to remain with his original club, seek a trade, or enter the Draft.

If the club does not, or can not match the offer, the player can move to the new club of his choice.

His original club will receive a compensation pick, for the loss of the player, on an AFL-determined formula, to apply where clubs lose more free agents than they gain in any single transfer period.

I suspect he'll be offered a bit Less than his previous contract, from us. I reckon he'll find better offers elsewhere.

I love that Beamer is a hard core Demon at heart. Did anyone see him collecting autographs at the 150 year function in 2008? I would also love him to finish his career at Melbourne and spend the rest of his life fondly remembering the Dees and being remembered by the Dees and fans. It would be a pity to see him wind up doing a Bruce and leaving in a huff then tooling around in another team's rezzies, or following Junior (Demon royalty) to the newbies, and thus diluting his legacy. (I don't know what to make of his time at Geelong vis-a-vis his career.)

The thing is, like several Demon players over recent years, he is a bit of a flat track bully. I cannot remember him playing a good game in a big game.

What, precisely, is his value to Melbourne?

Posted

With the talk of his manager fielding offers from other clubs does anyone know if we have actually offered him a contract for next season. Maybe that's what they were looking for in the first place (his management), I haven't heard of an offer or ongoing contract talks, the club may well be holding back.

A lot less than it was 12 mths ago, which makes the next contract negotiation difficult for the Club and him. He would be wanting a good deal based upon perceived potential, not upon current form.

Hope he stays. Like a couple of others, he definitely gets a bit of rough treatment by many on here.

Thanks for saving me the trouble. As a poker player he sucks. If you try to bluff, better have something behind it because if you're called you look a tad silly

It's hard to remember any of our players having 'Good' games in 'Big games' in the last 5 and a half years . It's often hard to come up with 4 or 5 'Pass marks' in a lot of our games against good opposition . That's the reality when the team gets smashed

I'd like to see a list of our players who have consistently done well in 'Big games' in the last 5 and a half years . Even a list of those who do well in 1 out of 3 games would be interesting . The 1st list would be empty and the 2nd list would contain less than a handful IMO .

As an example , let's look at our 13 losses last year . Did any of our players have 4 or 5 good games in these 13 losses? A good game should include winning your position and/or beating your opponent (but not always) .

It's easy to point the finger at one bloke but it's a team game and more than a few need to cop their fair share in a loss (especially a bad loss)

Guys get dropped.

He is in horrible form but I would like him to stick around.

I think he will be here next year.

Brent Moloney Has got the most out of himself in his AFL footy career

and quite possibly most out of his life at this point as a professional sportsman, I might also add he is a genuine Bloke who takes time to talk to the common man, something some players find very difficult!

A life long demon supporter

He could be described as very much "Old School"

Must have really, really cut to the bone with his demotion from leadership

But a born leader no less

Great leaders when appointed, step up to the mark, some spectacularly like Beamer has done in the past.

A few indescretions see him ostensibly consigned to the "Damaged Goods" bin

Very unfortunate...... Very!!

A Best and Fairest winner at Melbourne...

Impressive!!

Now on the basis of a less than spectacular season under a new coach

and some want to write him off???

Nup We need blokes like Brent Moloney and I'll give you a Tip..

Norm Smith would have loved him

Enough for me

Keep at all costs!

Is he going to help us win a flag?

If we win one and he's on the list, then yes.

Is he going to help us win a flag?

That's a tough one.

But if you are saying he isn't going to play when we are top 4 then fine, but that doesn't mean we should turf everyone we think isn't going to be around when we are top 4.

That's the kind of thinking that leads to Junior going early.

We might need divine intervention for that 'Wyl' . And the National Draft (again) .

Still doesn't have anything to do with winning a flag, does it?

If Neeld and co. think that Moloney will have a positive impact on those that they think will win a flag then get out the chequebook!

Sure. But i don't care if he stays or goes. He has been invisible during games this year.

I dont like too say it! But the reality is.... he will be at another club at seasons end.

Good. We can recruit a better player.

Explain your rationale, Jungle Dee( and anyone else for that matter) as to why he will be at another club next year?

Posted

So can a new role for Brent not be successful eventually ? I would say there are probably about 15 - 20 on our list who are struggling with their new roles . Do we rule a line through all of them as well ?

Or is there just a separate rule for Moloney ?

I think Moloney is more one-dimensional than most of the players on our list.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
