Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Casey Scorpions v Collingwood

KC from Casey

Come on Scorps, get home!

Yes. They finally do get home after an unusual finish. Tim Smith who had been lively all day up forward and kicked two goals, marked on the siren no more that 15 metres out. Instead of going back for the kick and a certain third goal, he played on and kicked truly but of course it was no score because the game was over the second he played on. D'oh!

Scorps win by 13 points.

My best player by a country mile - Luke Tynan - just ahead of brother Josh and Tom Couch. Special mention to Aaron Davey for a brilliant second quarter. He was too brilliant for this company.

Good to see Martin back in the frame

Why was Wellingham and Didak playing? Does that mean they wont on Monday?

Dont think they actually played from live report on Collingwood website. Just named there b/c they where apart of the 7 man interchange benched named for the AFL side.

Cook has to come into the mix for GW$, as does Martin. Good to see these two pushing for selection.

Sounds like a great game from both. It would be great to see Cookie get a start, and you couldn't ask for better opponents than GWS. I'd also love to see Stef in the side so Mitch can stay forward. The only problem is where to play them.

Cook did the same last week. Kicked 3 goals in the first half then didn't feature in the second half. This week 4 in the first half then none in second half. It's great to see his form improving, but does he still need to gain a lot of fitness before an AFL call up?

Great win the Casey today. Always good to win the tight ones!

Bloody excited about Cook's form. Nothing will give me greater pleasure than bumping all those Darling posts if he continues on this trajectory. Lots of water to pass under that bridge yet though.

Also very pleasing to see the SME kicking a small bag - there's hope yet...?

Cook 7 goals and in the best twice in two weeks is great. I reckon at least one or two more solid VFL performances before he gets a call up.

Especially given that Martin again played well and will be the first big man in line to come back in.

Likewise i also believe that off the back of this performance, it may be Couch's time for a call up- just a hunch anyway...

I hope they dont rush Cook. I mean, if they're 100% sure he's ready and isn't gonna injure himself nor be embarrassed by the bigger KPDs in the AFL then i'm all for it. But at the same time, if he still hasn't played a game by seasons end but is still kicking 2-4 goals a week in the VFL then i'll be happy.

If he and Gysberts can both have their first full healthy preseasons then i'll be expecting big things from both in 2013.

Just wondering if anyone knows the name of Cook's father. A Michael Cook played in the 75 finals series for Hawthorn. He had a brother, Robert who was a footballing freak in junior footy at that time. He was the same height and build, a phenomenal mark and could kick goals from 60 metres out in under 15s. He played a few games for Hawthorn reserves kicking a few bags and then drifted away.

Come off it - Darling would've kicked 14 and had sex with Cook's girlfriend at half time.

Good win by Casey, they really used the ball & the breeze well in the second quarter to build what was the game winning buffer. Pies kept at it though, to their credit and if not for Caseys' little men putting their heads over it late it could easily have turned bad.

Overall the game was a good standard considering the greasy conditions. Having not seen a a Casey game this year unitl today the first thing I'll say is how much more blanaced the side looks. Great to see a developing key forward in the sqaure as well ;)

As far as the Melbourne blokes go this is my 2 cents ...

Cook was good in the first hald but the ball into him was not as good in the second half. He also got double teamed in a lot of contests where the ball was kicked on his head but I think the main issue is that he lacks some fitness and size so he's was probabaly feeling a bit stuffed in the 2nd half. Realistically I think we have to be patient. i.e. no call up for GWS.

Stef's goals were all kicked on the run from half forward. Geez, he looks raw sometimes but he does his best work that way, when he doesn't have time to think about. Blemished his game with a couple of turn overs, one which resulted in a goal.

Spencer - I thought he was OK, but not outstanding. Executed a great smother right in fornt of me. Still amazes how he hits tragets sometims with his kicking action though it is better than what it used to be.

Couch is just a great grunt player but he also used the ball really well and can break from a stoppage. He's still gonna struggle to get a game at the AFL level though with Jonesy and Mags in the side because he doesn't really play that role better than they would.

Kel Lawrences' follow up work through traffic was at times was pretty good. He was playing higher up the ground but I would really like to see him closer to goal since we don't seem to be developing anyone for that crumbing fowared role.

Bennell did a few nice things but faded in the 2nd half.

Davey set up 2 goals off his own boot that I saw early on but was hobbling a litlle, not sure if he was carrying that into the game? In any case he didn't have as much ground time in the 2nd half so not sure if this was injury related or not?

Tynan J, I think was limited in game time but was poised as usual with the ball. Doesn't stuff up and kicked an important goal at the end.

Gys looked more than comfortable and did not have a problem throwing himself into it so no after effects of his broken jaw.

I thought Davis was really good in the first half. Beat his opponent in the one on ones and looks a bit more confortable with the ball in his hands than Mc or Mac Donald.

Jai Sheahan worked at it and was OK but had a couple of howlers late, one where he turned it over bouncing it, poor bloke!

If Cook becomes a terrific AFL player it won't in any way reflect on Darling. I love the way Darling plays and that won't change if Cook wins the Coleman. I was a fan of Darling pre-draft and nothing has changed my mind.

Btw, I do understand why you posted what you posted, but I find it ill-considered. Some posters love Darling and also wanted to give Cook time. They don't have to be mutually exclusive. And yes, nuff nuffs post here.

The same can be said of those posters mentioning Watts in the same breath. Many posters never expected Watts to star from the word go. It's his effort at contests that have garnered criticism. Which is why he was dropped. Do those same posters blame the coaching staff too ?

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
