"The xenophobia here is palpable."

Sorry that is such a wrong statement its not funny, that is the first claim people make who themselves who have a holier then though attitude The old racist claims to stopany discussion!!!

I made the statement if Justified and required, if so then I do not have any problems, but no studies no checks have been done or surveys to actually check the demand, and would this really make a difference and attract Muslims ? Has any one spoke to the Muslim community ?? As far as I know the answer is no.

If I said I wanted a Agnostic gathering room what do you think the chances would be ???? Even if I claimed it would bring more Agnostic people to the Football???

I have a profound dislike of the AFL and I make no bones about it . Not to ask the clubs but to act as a dictatorship as they have on numerous issues, I find offensive. I just find this just another poorly thought out Political statement by those who are the Dictatorship which is this AFL.

Don't see why people even care. Its a multi-faith room that anyone of any religious belief is free to use.

I've never had the need to use the parents changing room, but that caters to a segment of the population too.

I guess if they are non-denominational and allow all those who wish to act out their superstitions then well and good, provided that no one group can claim special access.

It could be interesting to see Muslims kneeling, Jews wailing, Catholics crossing themselves, Mormons door knocking and Hindus levitating all in the one room. Whose incense do they get to burn?

Who knows, it is even possible perhaps that it may induce some cross religion tolerance. It would be sad however if turf wars developed as they have in so many places around the world.

Jah live!

I wont be offended if the Muslims bow down while I smoke my spliff.

Hoping they are the same .

Just so long as it's not like the shared Church of the Holy Sepulchre, also called the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre, or the Church of the Resurrection in Jerusalem which is shared between several Christian churches and secular entities in complicated arrangements essentially unchanged for centuries.

Apparently the various residents regularly physically attack each other and they purportedly come under the same "Christian" umbrella. Go figure

The xenophobia here is palpable.

Why should it concern you in the slightest?

How exactly will it impact on you in any way?

Providing prayer rooms these days is a commonly-accepted necessity as much as universal access (wheelchair access in layman's terms).

Don't pull out the xenophobia card. Got nothing to do with a fear of Muslims. It's about people from diverse religions and traditions adapting to the secular environment we hold dear in Australia. Not the other way 'round.

Do you think if I was in Syria and - hypothetically - insisted they provide Buddhist or Jewish prayer rooms in their main sports stadium, that they'd do it? Of course not. And you know what? I'd accept that decision because the onus would quite rightly be on me to adapt to their environment.

And comparing the personal needs of religious followers to the universal needs of the disabled is just ridiculous.

The disabled can't adapt. They have no choice.

Cool, so Satanists will be able to undertake rituals and sacrifices next to Jews, Christians and Moslems? Who knows, some Black Magik might be just the cure for what ails the MFC.

It would only be an issue to those who let it be so

This topic is a beat-up of monumental proportions worthy of one of those trashy 6.30 shows........."THEY'RE TAKING OUR JOBS " etc. There has been a prayer room in the basement of the Ponsford Stand for zonks !

It seems to me that some religions are trying to take people back to the stone age.

If you're a fundamentalist christian, there was no stone age. All religions are farcical to me, but if people choose to believe, then that's fine... and I see absolutely no reason why prayer rooms should not be provided. If they do not inconvenience you in any way RF, just what exactly is your problem?

Strict adherents to any faith could quite rightly (in their minds) make the same argument.

Pretty much. With 3 venues already accommodating these rooms, it's old news.

If its a multi-faith room I hope they're scanning for weapons.

Personally, if it was within the rules I'd OD on the prayer and get it all done before heading off to the footy.

Haha.

If you read my post clearly you will see I said some religions, I never mentioned fundamentalist Christians, you did.

Just go back through the thread I'm sure you'll find the post where I outlined my view. Strange that with all the others agreeing with what I said you' respond to mine first, looking for a chance to cry racism? You and Joe aren't related by any chance are you?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
