Under 16's Glenelg Vs North Adelaide

Glenelg 4.4 8.8 15.11 18.11 119

North Adelaide 0.2 1.3 3.5 4.8 32

Under 16 v North

This was an excellent team performance winning every quarter comfortably. Right form the first bounce the use of the ball and willingness to run was pleasing. There were numerous options up forward with the three Jacks (Donkersley, Whaley and Glazbrook) all providing targets. The midfield was clearly on top through Billy Stretch, Bryce Woolard and Alex Brown, and with Peter Clunes blanketing North’s dangerous forward with support from Luke Green and Riley Chant the opposition’s forward thrust were continually repelled.

This was the start of a very heavy program where the 16’s play 5 games in 2 weeks with Centrals at Gliderol on Wednesday and the Eagles Saturday also at Gliderol Stadium.

Final Scores: Glenelg 18-11 defeated North Adelaide 4-8

Goals: Donkersley 7, Whaley 4, Glazbrook 2, Cleve Westley, Stretch, Elliot Chalmers, Justin Evans, and Mark Smith all 1.

Best: Stretch, Donkersley, Clunes, Green, Woolard, Brown.

Billy Stretch's father was a little before my time. How would one describe the way he played? And how does young William play?

Lightly framed but reasonable height. Ginger nut , good speed, good skills, good player.

I don't know about Billy, but his old man was a lightly framed, fleet-footed winger and as good a kick as you could imagine. Won a Bluey and kicked his share of goals. He would be handy at the Dees right now.

Also quite liked taking the odd hanger did Stretcher! Trying to think who best to compare him to to give people too young an idea of how he played.

Its a bit hard as there are very few 'true' wingmen going around nowadays. Maybe an Andrew Embley?

Also famously played on and beat Jason Dunstall as a makeshift fullback in Round 22 one year, then followed it up with a respectful performance a week later on Dunstall again in the finals.

Stretcher was a beauty...Ran like a cat..could kick goals on the run from 50-60 metres..

Often got flattened as he kicked...Got up & kept going. A Fine Demon..Could easily play modern football

Sandy Roberts used to love screaming, "Stretch, he can run like a gazelle!" as Steven bounced his way down the mcg.

Does he look even remotely like his dad yet? Knowing the way we're going he'll be exposed in a DNA test and we'll miss out.

That raises an interesting question. Do you have to be the biological son of a 100 game player in order to be elegible for father/son, or is it sufficient to merely be a son by law (ie adopted)?

This post broke my head. He was definitely not a ruckman, was way skinnier than Embley (though I concede he played the similar "winger" role) and don't think he ever played full back - you might be thinking of Tony Campbell or Johnny Howat.

Sure did. I remember one or two of those were taken high in the stratosphere. One one the wing was taken right in front of where I was sitting at the MCG and it was absolutely awesome!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
